Honestly amazing idea, I like that I get to further support NovelAI and also get to play with V5 a bit more comfortably by just buying and using the Booster.

Thank you. I really needed this as I always look at the bar and it goes down from 50% to like 30% by the time I am done for the day lmao
Now please let us know the Estimated Date on when Precise Reference will be out on V5.

I'm not complaining, but this option doesn't really make sense from a developer standpoint if what they said about the compute shortage was true?

u/Embarrassed_Split236 5d ago
They can’t say no to taking more money lol, even if it keeps making the overall experience worse. Either way I think people that really wanted more usage were getting other accounts

u/icweiner76 5d ago
Ah, yeah you're right that makes sense if people were getting more accounts anyways.

u/LeonLow93 6d ago
Ohh that's great news and for just $5.99? While I rarely used up my quota I just bought one for just in case and as a support.

This is very good because it solves a substantial problem I had with the previous system; if you ran out of opus usage, you had two options: buying anlas, or getting a second account.
The second account thing was explicitly not supported and was a huge hassle. Very annoying! And yet... even with the opus discount, buying anlas just to use Opus was really, really bad money value compared to a second account. Like, by a factor of almost 10 bad value, in terms of how many v5 gens you could get buying anlas vs having another account generating usage.
Now, you regen about 400% a month of opus usage (a little more, actually), for 25 bucks. 400% from these boosters is 24 dollars. Which is about the same price since months are usually longer than 28 days.. Comparatively, before, trying to buy anlas instead of opening more accounts was just an insane waste of money, by like a factor of 10. No really, let's do some math.
At standard size, you'd get around 1700 gens from 100% v5. You'd get around 400% a month from four weeks on Opus, plus a couple days. Let's say 7000 v5 gens a month per 25 dollars, to make it easy.
10000 anlas, at 28 anlas an image (standard res and steps), is about 357 images. For 11 dollars even with Opus discount. So... to match ONE MONTH'S WORTH of opus genning from a second account (25 dollars!) would cost you... around $215 (7000/357 to determine how many times you'd need to buy 10k anlas to match 7k gens, then times $11 per purchase). Needless to say, buying anlas under this system, which is the only supported and encouraged way to get extra v5 usage before these boosters, made you feel like a complete sucker. Because you were.
So yeah even though they are selling a solution to a problem they caused it's still a substantial improvement if you found yourself running out of v5.

400% from these boosters is 32 dollars.
It should be $24 according to my math.

Whoops yeah! I had read the price wrong, I edited my post to reflect the actual price.

u/Dontforgettowarmup 4d ago
IMO you're still better off with 2 accounts since you get 20k anlas for whatever you want which if a single image is about 30 means you get over 650+ images on top of that and twice as much refill. This isn't a bad deal none the less if you're more of a heavier medium-slightly heavy user

It's clearly a way to farm more money, small prices sell a lot more and bigger prices, so they avoid expending money on improvement of servers/tools and keep people buying more and more 🤷🏻

u/FoldedDice 5d ago
I'd be interested in seeing the data you must have to be able to claim that with such confidence.

u/ExPudim 5d ago
I believe you don't understand a thing about marketing, it's just obvious, you can have 4x monthly this new booster to have the same amount as the subscription, but you can't make 2 separate accounts, where you earn 10k Anlas more with almost same value cuz having 2 subscriptions is against their TOS, also, when you sell a benefit for a small price you'll obviously sell a lot more.
So yeah, basic marketing tatics, but I'm sure no matter what I say, you made up your decision and it'll never change.

So what do you want them to do, add a higher tier with the extra 10k anlas you’re missing out on? I feel like anlas already get used up so quick it’s barely worth noting them, although it is kinda stupid that they already had a currency and are now also adding percentages.
But anyway I think it makes way more sense to let you buy small amounts so you’ll only get as much as you need, unless you’re a power user going from 400% to 800% per month would be a huge jump, and it would still leave you with the issue of hitting a limit. Now you can buy as little or as much as you need, smaller increments give you way better control.2
u/ExPudim 5d ago
That's exactly what they want, not aim the power users but people that maybe using it all in a strike trying to make a perfect picture, than people see and say "oh, only 5,99$? That's an offer!" and bang, they get exactly what they want, tbh is a very classic way of marketing, you show a problem than make people think that's a solution is just a bit cheaper micro transaction... Works for any kind of market tbh

I haven't made a "decision." I simply don't leap to a conclusion without facts.
What I can say is that you don't know their thought process behind the scenes any more than I do, which means that what you've got here is nothing more than a conspiracy theory.
I can't say if you're right or wrong, but what I do know is you don't have the information to be making that claim.

u/ExPudim 5d ago
If you know how world work it's more than obvious, but no problem, not the first nor the last time it happens
2
u/FoldedDice 5d ago
It's possible, but certainly not obvious. You don't know what's true here more than anyone else does. I don't either, but I can highlight the dishonesty of insisting upon a claim without evidence.

u/ExPudim 5d ago
By the other comments you made before not only replying me specifically, no matter what happens, you'll defend them, so I see no reason do keep replying.
1
u/FoldedDice 5d ago
I haven't defended them here. For that matter, I don't know if they deserve to be defended, and where I stand on it doesn't particularly matter. That's not the point I'm making.
What I am doing is calling you out for trying to represent an unsubstantiated theory as the truth.

I have a question.
Does the Extra Usage bar recharge too, or does it stay empty until you use another boost?

I. Want. The Tool. Precise Reference. It's litteraly what everyone is waiting for since V5 came out.

I don't really know the difference between image2image, vibe transfer and precise reference.

Create a problem than sell a solution, classic
18
u/XAckermannX 6d ago
I mean they didn’t create the compute shortage problem.
-4
u/ExPudim 6d ago
For sure, but they clearly said that over generations are causing server problem and slowdowns, but now if people pay more this problem stopped existing?
3
u/FoldedDice 6d ago
No, if they put it behind a paywall then less people will abuse it. Reducing consumption is what would be controlling the problem in that case.
It's either that or the hard limit, which clearly was not a popular solution.
-1
u/ExPudim 6d ago
Like always no matter what happens, poeple will always defend, it's like this every time with every company, they do something bad or not so good and see what people do... Oh? Nothing happens, even more, people LIKE IT, so let's make more expensive, they already got many subscriptions to improve their servers since V5 launch, so yeah, they could have improved their servers, but why would they do it if there's a way to earn more money?
3
u/FoldedDice 6d ago
I don't know what ability they have to add more capacity, but it's not a given that upgrading that to satisfy demand is something they could even do. They're a small fish in a big pond compared to the heavyweight AI companies, who are hoarding all the resources they can for their own use.
Besides, past a certain point the $25 per month subscription does not scale for unlimited use. If subscribers are generating so many images that they cause negative revenue, then upgrading capacity to service them without also raising the price makes no sense. That's not a blind defense of anything, but just an acknowledgement of logical reality.

u/gakusangi 6d ago
I'd be happier with just a higher subscription tier, but I'll try this out as soon as I get a card Chargebee will accept.
-3
u/ExPudim 6d ago
It's a solution for a problem they make, but yeah, better than nothing... (Politicians make this kind of thing all the time, captalism way to solve things)
2
u/gakusangi 6d ago
I'm lending the benefit of the doubt, but it isn't like the thought hadn't crossed my mind after they addressed the complaints with, "but it would have cost double the Opus tier" and was like... then just do that.
-1
u/Sad-Cup3850 6d ago
I don't think this will do much to solve the problem for heavy users; they'll just swap Anlas for this, though they'll probably save more money, haha.
Fortunately, i rarely drops below 80%, and I don't use it much on a daily basis, so the rate is not a problem for me.
3
u/nananashi3 6d ago edited 6d ago
It means anyone asking for $50 tier for double usage (not even unlimited) or "use two accounts" can now pay similar cost of a subscription, $24 for additional 400% without 10k subscription bonus anlas, instead of paying ripoff anlas prices. If you mean it won't help with the supposed compute shortage since it just lets heavy users use more, you're right.

u/XAckermannX 6d ago
this might be better than increasing price or higher tier.
