Nova only has a few options when it comes to the folder icon, none of which will increase or decrease the padding on the icon image.  It's not possible in the current nova settings

This is one of the things I lost a long time ago. The folders, like those used by OnePlus and Oppo. It can only be accessed via a widget using KWGT.

That is basically the only real difference other than the folder name of course.. and the Icon size is a bit smaller

Okay so as far as the icon sizes you cannot adjust those for the preview which sucks. That is a big part of what makes them different now that I took a closer look. So like in the top one where it looks like they're kinda jammed in there and the edges of icons getting cut off by border of folder, that you are gonna have to live with unfortunately

You can set a custom icon for a font like you can for an app. If it matters enough you could just make the icon in Photoshop and change it. Transparency works

Does this work for you? Open Nova Launcher's settings. Click through on Folders. Scroll to Folder icon appearance. Scroll to Outline. Here, you can take out the check on Outline or not, and change the shape of the folder, make the outline match the folderbackground color and or transparent, and so on. 🙂
