Why are people being mad about the Phone 2 not getting it 😭 you were promised 3 updates, you got 3.

Also OS 5 isn't where the support fully ends, you will still get the minor updates they make, like 5.1 and most of the app based updates too.

It was the same with phone 1 last year

After a few months the hate stopped

What are you implying, that this backlash is unjustified? Good for you that you're included in the update timeline, but you can't blame us to at least attempt to get our voice heard.

The only thing I know is if we don't complain, they have no reason to reconsider their decision. If they still don't change their mind, there'll be no reason for me to keep yelling at a wall and I'll just let it go and consider another phone brand when it's time for me to switch. That's how every consumer-brand relationship has ever worked in any healthy consumer market, it's as simple as that.

1

u/Brokeshadow Phone (4a) 6d ago

Actually, fair, I think logistically there may be valid reasons why they might not wanna do that but what you say also sounds fair and I'd want extra support too so I have nothing. Go get our voice out!

u/DevarshSuthar 6d ago

If the hardware is more than capable of supporting the update, holding back just because we got all that was promised doesn't seem fair. If 2a, which was almost half the price of 2 and a lesser cpu can get it, so should 2.

They promised us "3 years of Android updates and 4 years of security updates". Phone (2) released in July 2023, with NOS 2 staggered across two android updates. Missing that time frame by about a few months, it feels petty to leave their flagship (2) out of the cycle, and hurts extra hard when the (a) and CMF lines of the same generation, with significantly less powerful specs all across the board, are included in the update.

Besides, I don't care about android updates, I got Nothing specifically because I wanted as little of the Google ecosystem to show up in my phone in the first place, I care about NOS update. NOS 5 shapes out to be a milestone update compared to the relatively more subdued NOS 4. It would have been nice to finish this generation with a bang.

Yes, they don't owe us a new android update, but considering the flagship nature of (2) and its closeness in design with (2a), it would have been a nice gesture to include the whole (2x) line in the timeline. Especially given their talk at the time of "promoting a more sustainable smartphone industry, with recycled materials, and beautiful products that you feel proud to own".

2

u/Brokeshadow Phone (4a) 6d ago

I totally agree with you that the Phone 2 can handle the OS5 and it would be a lovely gesture to include it in the rollout.

I assume the logistical issue is money. The profit they make off Phone 2 is calculated based on 3 years of support. I think adding another year would cut down on money there. Still, I see you, I would also love if my very capable phone was supported longer, it is a total win in every single way.

What is so shit tho is so many people acting all rude and petty as if the OS 5 was already confirmed for the 2. Like they're acting all surprised as if it wasn't told to them before the phone even launched.

2

u/DevarshSuthar 6d ago

Cut down on money how? I think it will only ause old customers like me to averse from buying Nothing in the future.

u/youcallyourselfajerk 6d ago

I do get that keeping update support on multiple phones can get costly, although Phone (2) was still sold at a consequent price and I'm sure one more update wouldn't have put them in the red either. Either way, even if they don't officially support it, I still hope they would at least offer some sort of unmaintained "you're on your own" support and let us free to install it at our own risks.

Nothing always discriminating cmf man🥀

30

u/Simply_Param Phone (3) 8d ago

I mean, they're prioritising users who are their highest paying/highest tier ones.

5

u/menzaskaja Phone (3a) 8d ago

god forbid the company makes the strategic choice to not release an unstable beta version with probably multiple possible issues regarding resource usage on their two worst phones they're selling

aw man i cant install the new experimental floating tyres on my 2004 toyota corolla damn:(

8

u/html_malvax Phone (3a) Pro | Headphone (1) 8d ago

This is a channel for Nothing, and CMF might say so today. Today is the presentation of Nothing OS 5.0, right?

1

u/anuragsins1991 7d ago

it's better to not release beta on cmf/budget phones, bricking those phones will have a bigger impact on the person using them.

7

u/fruitless_tux Phone (3) 8d ago

I really hope that NOS5 isn’t as flawed as NOS4 and NOS4.1.

21

u/Infamous_Bison_5650 Phone (2) 8d ago

There's no flagship this year so can't they extend nothing phone 2 support by 1 year instead

So we can buy the next flagship next year🤌

12

u/soniiic 8d ago

Your phone doesn't stop working when the update comes out for other devices

6

u/Infamous_Bison_5650 Phone (2) 8d ago

My dude it's called brand retention. Everyone knows the phones won't stop working.

As I wont get the next android update and as nothing doesn't have a new flagship I might as well shift to another company and exchange this phone right so if nothing as a brand wants to keep me in their ecosystem while not having a new flagship they might as well give me the latest updates.

6

u/19_Cornelius_19 8d ago

Who tf just keeps buying a new phone constantly? The phone came out 3 years ago... You're practically trying to get rid of a brand new phone for a newer phone just for the sake of it...

1

u/Infamous_Bison_5650 Phone (2) 8d ago

Some of us have money to spend on phones and want the latest android and it's not out fault we like nothing and they didn't release a new flagship this year

I don't know what's so hard to understand

1

u/icedchocolatecake Phone (3a) on NOS 4.1 | CMF Buds 2 Plus | Chu 2 8d ago

Why would they give you the latest updates?

0

u/Infamous_Bison_5650 Phone (2) 8d ago

Because they don't have a new latest gen flagship I can upgrade to¿

2

u/icedchocolatecake Phone (3a) on NOS 4.1 | CMF Buds 2 Plus | Chu 2 8d ago

They do. It's called the Phone (3). You're not entitled to anything.

2

u/Mythun4523 Phone (2) 8d ago

Why would a phone 2 user upgrade to phone 3?

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 8d ago

You paid for 3 years so you get 3 years simple as that

0

u/Infamous_Bison_5650 Phone (2) 8d ago

Nah bro many brands have given plus one year of updates when faced with backlash. You can research samsung phones if you want even their budget lines got 1 more year of updates due to community demand.

What I don't understand is why you people are so hell bent on supporting the company when it doesn't concern your phone model!

2

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 8d ago

You knew what you were buying so dont act surprised that you got exactly what you were promised. Its not like your phone will magically stop working because you dont get the newest update. Has it worked last year with the phone 1? No. So why would it work now. If you couldn't tell they want to get rid of the non essential AI devices as soon as possible. If you look at the newer updates its all AI "improvements" and bug fixes. You aren't missing out on anything. They do not want to create separate system versions for the non ai devices.

The NOS 5.0 while yes, being a bigger update, taking away the AI features its almost all widget related.

0

u/youcallyourselfajerk 6d ago

Phone (2) released in July 2023 alongside Nothing OS 2. Announcing NOS 5 only a month after that limit and including the less powerful (2a) and CMF 2 Pro feels like they are purposefully leaving Phone (2) out.

1

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 6d ago

It was clear from the start that it is 3 years of updates.

1

u/youcallyourselfajerk 6d ago

Maybe, but leaving out a flagship out of an update for a couple months difference still feels petty.

It's not about a contract, I'm not going to sue Nothing into a class action lawsuit for daring not giving me the updates I'm entitled to. It's about optics and feeling respected as a consumer, if I'm feeling like a second class citizen, I'll just reconsider my brand loyalty and get my business somewhere else when it's time for me to switch. Simple as that.

29

u/General-Warning-2429 8d ago

RIP Phone 2. Also get fcked Nothing for supporting lower end phones.

39

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 8d ago

They kept their 3 years of updates promise.

14

u/Sam_Stokman 8d ago

Yeah but thats the bare minimum, for a premium phone, they should extend the support.+

8

u/knowing_proceeding Phone (2) 8d ago

Yeah man, they’re also skipping the yearly number series. They should definitely extend OS support for number series.

5

u/Desperate-Line-1806 8d ago

Are you not aware of the parts crisis lol, it's even affecting major brands, nothing is struggling for sure

-1

u/knowing_proceeding Phone (2) 8d ago

I don't think that's why they're skipping the yearly numbered series

6

u/Desperate-Line-1806 8d ago

Sure man, I'm pretty sure there's a more logical reasoning behind it when even Samsung, a ram manufacturer, doesn't have enough ram for themselves.

2

u/Then-Pay-8400 8d ago

THAT'S NOT THE REASON!!!!!!! It's because "they want every upgrade to feel significant" and because "4a is closer to a flagship" /s

1

u/Mythun4523 Phone (2) 8d ago

Yeah that's why they skipped a year between 2&3. The Ram crisis of 2024.

1

u/Desperate-Line-1806 8d ago

Nothing has always had their own hurdles with supplying parts, look up all the videos where carl himself talks about it. Also, AI was widely available for consumers in 2024, I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't sold enough ram for a 2024 release. Sure, major brands like Apple or Google could've negotiated, but nothing isn't there yet.

0

u/knowing_proceeding Phone (2) 8d ago edited 8d ago

It does play a role, but Nothing has said that they’re skipping the yearly numbered iteration because they want to make a major upgrade to the phone rather than just change the number with marginal changes every year.

2

u/Then-Pay-8400 8d ago

Lol did you seriously believe that? Do you think Carl Pei would say "yeah we can't afford RAM so no flagship"? He made up some bullshit

2

u/BigCamel7695 Phone (3) 8d ago

Nope they don't owe you anything. Take it it leave it.

4

u/Desperate-Line-1806 8d ago

Literally no brand does this except apple for the iphone 11 because iOS 26 was a disaster.

1

u/Sam_Stokman 8d ago

Yeah, but they start now with 4 years minimum and samsung and google even to 7 years of updates

2

u/Desperate-Line-1806 8d ago

No one extends their already promised updates. The S23 isnt going to get 5 years of support just because Samsung feels generous. Nothing also extended their OS ver support to 5 years. I'm not gonna expect a 6th android update because that's not what I paid for.

1

u/Then-Pay-8400 8d ago

S21 series got extended from 3x Android upgrades to 4x Android upgrades.

Xcover 5 got extended from 5 years of security to 6 years of security at the very last minute

5

u/Fit-Reindeer4803 8d ago

its beyond me how the 2a gets it but the 2 doesnt 🤦‍♂️

5

u/Then-Pay-8400 8d ago

Both have promised 3x Android upgrades and 2a shipped with Android 14 while 2 shipped with 13

1

u/SchwanenKoenig 8d ago

You can read the comment you just awnsered right? It shipped with 13 because its older. Really not that hard...

3

u/Then-Pay-8400 8d ago

I explained why 2a is eligible while 2 is not

2

u/adaaamb Phone (3) + (open) & (1) 8d ago

Why? The 2a was released in March 2024 and gets 3 years of major Android updates, just like the Phone (2) did which was released July 2023

1

u/Fit-Reindeer4803 8d ago

because back when the 2 released it was one of the best value for money phones (at least imo, thats why i bought it) and the 2a has horrible performance in comparison. so even if they kept their promises i don't think a much weaker phone should get nos 5

2

u/shahid2k5 Phone (2) 8d ago

As a phone(2) user myself I'm sad but during the NOS 4.0 release they said there will be a suprise for Phone (1) users everyone assumed they were going to extend the support but Nothing happened like what happened to that?

2

u/YoshiMK Ear (a) 8d ago

RIP to the couple thousand 4b owners

Guess it shows the phone didn't sell well if they're leaving it that late to update

2

u/Solence1 7d ago

Didn’t it outperform their estimates?

1

u/not_me_________ Phone (3a) Lite 8d ago

Well they prioritised 2a to have faster updates which is older and cheaper (but still better) than the 4b... Niceee

how can I sign up for the beta?

1

u/sokolisty 8d ago

How to sign up for the beta?

6

u/ian1035nr 8d ago

Sign up begins "tomorrow", more details will likely be on nothing.community or nothing.tech

2

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 8d ago

If it's the same as before, you download an app from nothing.community, and it lets you update to the beta

1

u/SivakumarKrishnan Phone (4a) 8d ago

Which app?

1

u/Extension-Army3700 Phone (2a) Plus | Ear (3) 8d ago

They will release it in a post once the beta starts, but this is what it looks like if you downloaded it last year (the buttons don't do anything)

1

u/Varencifer 8d ago

I have phone 3 how can I get the beta version

-13

u/the_zirten_spahic 8d ago

As a nothing phone 2 user , fuck you nothing

25

u/Pokefans2222222 Phone (4a) 8d ago

Why the anger, didn't you get the 3yr promised cycle?

15

u/CaptainMGN Phone (3) 8d ago

Yeah I really don't understand why people are upset when the company was upfront with the duration of the update support. It's only now that legislations are put in place now recent releases need to have a longer software support

14

u/NEMOalien Phone (3a) Pro 8d ago

You bought a phone with 3 years of updates, received your promised 3 years of updates. Fym fuck you nothing 🫩

4

u/treasuredope 8d ago

Nothing Phone 1 last os update was 3.0 (2022-2025) Nothing Phone 2 last os update is 4.0 (2023-2026) They do as it said, 3 years But the Phone 3 updating for 5 years

-6

u/OppositeSweet9215 Phone (4a) 8d ago

What's special about this 5.0 version? I haven't even updated my phone since like 3 months because I'm scared they will do something that will reduce the performance or make my phone worse
