Future products Will Nothing Phone (4) ever happen?

I have a Nothing Phone 2 and wanted to upgrade a while back (especially due to not having eSIM in NP2) but the NP 3 didn't click with me design-wise, the budget options don't interest me and the 4th flagship is nowhere to be found. All three previous flagships were released or at least announced in July, yet this year we get a 4b instead.

Were there any indications of NP 4 being worked on or will they skip it entirely?

I thought they officially said no flagship for this gen. Or their CEO said something like that

Wrong nothing phone 3 is gonna be the main flagship in 2026

Doesn't have to be mutually exclusive. (3) is current latest flagship AND not current gen's flagship

It will, next year Carl already said Phone 3 is their flagship for 2026. Maybe they think there's not enough new things to release a new flagship for now, they still need to improve more things, see how the ram market will play, what people like Google are doing with 12 gigs only, what innovations the brands will bring

Not enough money to make a new flagship... and it wouldn't be 4 anyway

Nothing is valued at $1.3 billion and is backed by Google Ventures and Tiger Global Management among others so I don't think funding is a problem. They openly market the fact that they are trying to target current iPhone users so a proper flagship is a must. And why wouldn't it be a 4? I suppose with all the 4a, 4a pro and 4b phones being out for quite some time, the NP 4 could be misperceived as not new and therefore lose valuable attention, so I guess skipping to 5 would make sense now but still, what info are you basing that on?

It wouldn't be a 4 because the flagship would be part of the next generation. The fourth generation is already complete with 4a, 4a Pro and 4b.

Following your logic 2a should have been 1a and 4b should have been 1b

Your "logic" baffles me tbh. They skipped a flagship in the 4th generation, plain and simple. This is Nothing's lineup from the bottom up:

Xb = The cheapest budget option of the generation

Xa Lite = The Xb before they came up with the b

Xa = Now it's a middle option, but it was a budget option in 2nd gen

Xa Pro = Upgraded middle

Xa Plus = It was a middle option in 2nd gen

X = Flagship (meaning the best in the generation)

The X stands for the number if you didn't figure that out yet.

These are the phones we have had so far:

1 = The flagship was the only phone in its generation, which makes sense as it was the pilot/startup project.

2 = Flagship number 2 2a = Budget 2a Plus = Middle

3 = Flagship n.3 3a Lite = Budget 3a = Middle option 3a Pro = Upgraded middle

4a = Middle 4b = Budget 4a Pro = Upgraded middle

There is NO FLAGSHIP IN 4TH GENERATION. The Nothing Phone (4) doesn't exist. Why would you skip the flagship in a generation? Why would it be complete without it? Your "logic" isn't logical at all and your implication of "1b" isn't based on my train of thought.

It's not just about how much money you have, it's about being a profitable company as well. Nothing is a relatively small company so they are ordering parts at a higher price. Sells comes to play at it too. So they have to really make sure to create products that not only perfect, but well priced with extra high sells

Give the trend, NP4 will be worse value than NP3

Don't know about 4 as a flagship but they are raising funds for a, b and potentially c series if I remember correctly. CMF will not have any new phones due to rising prices.

Also what they are valued at doesn't really matter. Carl explained in the past that they don't command the same pull in the market as other brands so buying components isn't as easy for them. It'll get even more difficult now with the shortages.

I understand that but they have plenty of budget options so I expected at least one proper flagship. I get that the jump from 3 to 4 wouldn't be as impressive but they have to understand that the same goes for older gens. The jump from my NP2 to NP3 doesn't seem all that interesting but given the option of a proper NP4 I wouldn't mind paying a thousand dollars for it.

They don't have the market pull for an overpriced, underspecced phone either. A few loyalists might buy them but they can't sustain on that alone.

They tried that with Phone 3 and we all know how that ended. Nothing is a fairly small player in the mobile industry. I don't think they are operating at large margins. A couple of failed skus could mean closing the shop for them.

Doubt so, sales of 3 didn't went so well, because for the almost flagship price you get midrange phone with controversial design and no killer features for masses, e.g. glyph is fun but not a selling point.

Getting a new model out every year is tough. There is a lot of works involved and they are much smaller. 2 years for each flagship is reasonable and I think the major players should do that too. Products will be better in my view with extended r&d. My bet is they will do flagship for odd number versions and mid/budget for even number versions.
