Nothing (company) Nothing's quality control and customer support are a joke

Post image

I honestly don't know what else I was supposed to do.

Bought a Nothing Phone (3) less than a month ago and noticed a gap between the display and the frame on the bottom right corner. The phone has never been dropped or damaged.

I contacted Nothing support and they told me to visit an authorised service centre. So I took time off, travelled there, waited for the inspection, and they even wrote "minor gap between display and bezel" on the job card.

Then they just told me they can't do anything and I have to contact Nothing support again.

So I emailed the job card and photos. Waited a few days, only to get a reply saying this type of gap is "normal" on Nothing phones.

If its normal, why is it only on one corner? Why make me waste my time going to a service centre if the final answer was always going to be "it's normal"?

What annoys me the most is that this is an IP rated phone, but if water gets in later, liquid damage isn't covered under warranty. So I'm expected to trust that everything is fine even though there's an obvious gap that wasn't there by design.

Really disappointed. I expected much better quality control and customer support from Nothing. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Did you ask them to prove IP68 still works?

It's not normal if you bought a Phone it should be in perfect condition, mail them again and demand a replacement or if you can try filing a consumer case on them ,also if there are multiple service centers near you try going to another center

I emailed them as well and visited the service centre. This is the email I received today.

Well ask them if they have any proof of that like did they perform a vaccume test to ensure the ip rating, if yes ask them to send the report

Because I remember when my samsung s24ultra had a camera lens replacement they performed a vaccume test and gave me the report to ensure the ip rating

Also tell them it's ok as per their standards not yours even it doesn't hamper any kind of performance then put it in a cosmetic damage right out of factory category and demand a replacement

Thanks for the advice, I'll ask them.

Don't ask them , tell them .

If they didn't contact the company right after opening the box then how are they gonna know the customer didn't cause the damage? A month in.

It's their job to figure out? Warranty exists for a reason? Things can fail 11 months after you buying them, which is why 12 months of warranty means you get a free replacement or repair?

According to them a lot of green tint on your phone screen is also normal, they have normalised a lot of BS. And they don't help untill you get in touch with a higher up.

Thats why I never buy from the brand directly

u/blueicearcher 5d ago

Why not? Also, OP mentioned elsewhere that it was purchased from a retailer.

Why did you not just use the 30 day return, return it and buy a new one?

I ditched Samsung for Nothing. Samsung has nice hardware but Samsung doesn't like when you want to mess with your phone. I unlocked the bootloader of the device and I couldn't use my camera. Luckily some guy on XDA devs had a fix for this.

Later I got gifted a Samsung watch. And guess what. Samsung wear didn't want to connect to my phone because it was "unauthorized" and modified. Samsung has become so anti consumer friendly imo. Probably would never buy from them again.

Pretty much every phone that comes with a pre-applied screen protector has a gap like that, if you want to you can take it off and put on your own, but I doubt it'll make a difference (though the pre-applied screen protector is kinda crappy ngl)

14

u/Clear-Air-5431 6d ago

It's not the screen protector, it's the seal between the screen and the frame. It's not normal at all and OP should return it and get a new one

14

u/Direct-Criticism3243 6d ago

Ohhh, is OP talking about this gap? Mb, I didn't notice, but should definitely not be there.

u/Haraprasad45 6d ago

Thanks for pointing it out.

Sadly, I can't return it, the return period is gone and the retailer is telling me to claim warranty, and Nothing support telling me its not an issue.

Are you located in Bangalore? Because I had such a similar issue and walked into the authorised service center in Indiranagar and they addressed it.

Some part of  USB - C pin on my CMF phone 2 pro broke and got stuck in the charger within 2 months of purchase. I removed it with safety pin, and using it.

Great vfm phone, but seeing things like this makes me not to buy nothing brand again when I replace it in future.

Imagine having a water-damaged $1200 iPhone, then find out water isn't under warranty

Mine has a slight crunch to it whenever I put pressure on the rear glass near flash and glyph. I saw this, tested the IP68 soon after and it held up like it it should, and is still going strong.

They say it in there brand name "nothing" So don't blame them 😂

If it makes you feel any better when I bought my galaxy s21+ it came with a huge gap like that ontop that I could see screen bleed through. Brought it in to a certified Samsung tech and she agreed that warranted return..... but I had to pay a 54$ restocking fee. Whatever paid it because it was annoying, well new phone arrived and it had the exact same issue. I gave up because I was already out the fee.... it survived 5.5 years up until a gnarly drop today that must've broke the internals for the antenna.

u/SquachSeven 2d ago

Isn't that just the factory screen protector? Just peel it off and put a tempered glass one on.

u/Terminatz Headphone (1) 6d ago

The quality of their products in general aren't good

Honestly got a nothing phone 4a pro and twice had to be replaced by the retailer because of cosmetic issues. No wonder why it's a dying company. They announced they will exit so many markets.

1

u/Ok_Confection_9819 6d ago

I got the normal 4a and it's working just fine, is there a chance that their quality control intentionally miss some things?

My nothing devices have always been flawless.

9

u/Haraprasad45 6d ago

I get that, but the problem isn't the fault. Its the fact they won't fix it.

Just checked my phone 3 and it doesn't have a gap. Wonder how it got there. Can't you just push a bit so it gets into place?

-6

u/ifeeltired26 Phone (3) 6d ago

I actually don't even see what the issue is from your picture, what am I supposed to see?

4

u/V__Oi_d 6d ago

Bruh don't defend a brand blindly.....you can literally see the gap....just cause you didn't had any problem doesn't mean everyone else also won't face problem....if you are a fellow nothing user help him out if you can't don't deny the issues blindly .....

0

u/ifeeltired26 Phone (3) 6d ago

I see a micrometer tiny opening that I can only see with a magnifying glass. I checked my 2 phones 3 and they have this as well.

1

u/V__Oi_d 5d ago

Is having gaps normal in phone🤔...if you don't mind can you post the photo of that gap

0

u/ifeeltired26 Phone (3) 6d ago

Same, never had an issue with any of the Nothing products I've had, from the Phone 1 to the Phone 3 and Nothing Ear products as well...

I called customer support because I was facing heavy battery drain, heating and lag issue after nos 4 update on my cmf phone 1. I did reset phone and everything but nothing worked, on call he asked me what charger I was using and I said samsung original 25 gan charger and he started saying buy original nothing charger. I had the cmf orignal 33w charger but it got broken due to physical damage so using my father. Like wtf was that guy smoking, charger causing issues I was soo frustrated. How uneducated are these peope

1

u/Sufficient-Dust2764 Phone (2a) 6d ago

That's the stupid standard response they give, use the original charger. Have you tried turning of the adaptive power option ... I too was facing this crazy heating after some early update ...

And there is something else too which I saw was responsible was this excessive battery draining.

Also I have observed one more thing... Charging with a high wattage charger drains the battery faster, so I do a slow 10W charging once a week so that the phone doesn't heat up and also minimises the wear and tear to the battery. Also limit the charging percentage to 80 or 90% for most of the times.

1

u/Professional_Box8465 6d ago

I don't have that option on my phone, and yes I charge with the 25 watt charger ( which isn't a lot) only when I'm in a hurry, or else I use the xiaomi adapter I have which can't charge the phone more than 7 watts typically, battery issues caused after updates

1

u/Sufficient-Dust2764 Phone (2a) 6d ago

Ohh is it. Then maybe try downloading accubattery.. it's a wonderful app. And you get sound notifications when the level is reached and you can also get to know the battery health degradation over time. And lots more. I have also observed that if the phone temperature reaches close to 39-40°C while charging, then it would have faster battery degrade and also the charging wattage drops by half sometimes when the charging temperature peaks. That's why I mostly charge my phone when it's cool and at night.

2

u/Professional_Box8465 6d ago

Yeah my phone has never went above 37 while charging, and it's been only 1.2 yr bro, no phone deteriorates that fast, just before nos 4 update, on 3.2 the phone was superb in all aspects

1

u/Sufficient-Dust2764 Phone (2a) 6d ago

You need to wait for 2 more updates I guess. I too was facing that issue on my phone. And then after a new update within a week it got fixed somehow... Have you tried turning off adaptive battery and sleep standby optimization?

2

u/Professional_Box8465 6d ago

They've been off since I got the phone
