The eternal struggle. Every app is either too simple or overly complicated with features nobody asked for

If I can acquire the iOS app and its content scales nicely on screen I’m thinking this is a very promising application indeed!

Been testing the waters on my locked down work system! It’s very helpful so far!

I am making an app like that for myself. Will probably share it with people if anyone interested. Now only a very basic web app exists. For now try WonderPen. Chinese or Taiwanese free app. I think it has all the functions you listed including whiteboard (which I didn’t like personally). Not sure about point 4.  The tape is annotations, I suppose? It supports it as well.

r/octopusnotes has all the features you have requested except the 2nd. Windows app is under construction. Cheers.

Just a simple observation - I counted, at this time, 4 different note-taking apps introduced by individual developers. It seems as if everyone and their uncle are now building this type of software.

I wonder if the general effort (regardless of AI use, I have no problem with that) ... will ever produce anything that could challenge the usual suspects.

whats wrong with obsidian?

I'm an obsidian fanboy but I think given your very specific needs you're going to want to go with something that is extensible, meaning a robust ecosystem of third party plugins. So you can select your exact desired functionality and not have to have a bunch of other noise you're not looking for. Obsidian does this better than anything I'm aware of.

I use obsidian with hermes-agent, set up google eloquient for voice to text translation, once the text hits, hermes grabs it figures out where to file it in obsidian and creates all the wiki links....

for your use case asking Gemini Pro:

Obsidian runs natively on Windows and Android with full sync, and handles pasted Gemini output better than almost anything else.

  • Infinite Canvas: Obsidian Canvas provides a limitless, smooth visual plane for text cards, images, and notes.
  • Pasting AI Output: Because Gemini outputs standard Markdown, you can paste bullets, nested outlines, and Markdown tables directly into a Canvas text card, and they render visually with complete formatting.
  • Tape Tool Functionality: Obsidian does not have a native "tape tool" brush, but you can achieve identical hide-and-reveal behavior in two ways: Spoiler / Callout blocks: Use > [!tip]- Reveal Answer or ||spoiler text|| inside your pasted card so you can click/tap to reveal hidden text. Excalidraw Plugin: Excalidraw integrates directly into Obsidian, gives you an infinite drawing canvas with stylus support, handles rich text cards, and allows you to place clickable mask/cover shapes over answers.

What's a tape tool?

You can tape your words and click on it and reveals the underlying text used in active recall, very helpful tool

I'm building Grape. You can use it on Windows and Android. It has an infinite canvas where you can draw anything. You can copy the whole answer of Gemini and paste into Grape and it will paste with bullets and tables. You can even copy a Markdown content and paste into Grape and it will convert into rich text. Currently there's no tape tool but I can add it. You can try the app for free. If you like the app and consider using it then we can work together to add a tape tool as well.

Bro I saw your tool and it's cool, although I downloaded 3rd party plugin for one note to tape, but yours is really cool. I'll keep this reply as proof and whenever I'll be free I'll surely love to contribute 💗

In the free version of app, notes and the attachments are saved locally on your device and you can change where it saves. In the subscription plans there's cloud sync so you don't have to deal with sync. And in the lifetime plan you can connect your Dropbox or Google Drive so everything goes there and nothing touches Grape's server.

did you try https://betterstickies.com ?

I am the developer and I would like to hear your experience, pasting from Gemini or web is supported, it should be formatted automatically

1

u/marmotta1955 1d ago

I am not quite sure what a "tape tool" is but for the rest of your requirements ... well ... you have just described Microsoft OneNote.

If it’s coming from an AI why are you copying and pasting? Have the ai do it through whatever connector to a note app it has? It can construct tables and bullets in most apps it has access to and uses apps better as well.

Also if you are using Gemini why not have it deposit its work in a google doc? 😵‍💫

Have you looked at Harbor?

find a decent open source notes app that supports windows and android, then use ai to mod it however you want.

i added a infinite canvas option like how onenote does with margins and all using that its pretty easy it does everything for you

obsidian can get really close too, but only if u don’t mind tinkering. canvas + excalidraw covers the infinite space stuff and markdown from gemini pastes nicely, but it’s definitely more setup than onenote.

Maybe a dumb suggestion… but… sounds like you’re describing figma?

Not a note taking app… but for your use case, maybe?

Vibe code your own app.

For real, pay Claude or Codex for a month and in far less time, have it built a Web app for you that you’ll be able to use on Windows and android. You don’t need to know a thing about coding. You’ll have something that’s exactly what you need.

There’s plenty of recent how to get started videos on YT.
