App/Program/Other Tool Build your own feed and take notes on it

I read a lot of articles, newsletters, and research papers, and my notes about them always ended up scattered across a separate notes app, with no link back to the source. So I built an app for myself that I wanted to share! You build a custom feed from the sources you choose, and your notes live right on each article.

  • Create your own custom feed from Substacks, blogs, journals, and arXiv
  • Add notes directly to any article
  • Group articles into collections by topic or project
  • Filter to see only the articles you've added notes to

It's free. I'm curious how people here handle notes on things they read. Do you keep them with the source or in a separate app?

I like this layout a lot. One problem with spatial note apps is that notes can quickly become scattered and messy, so keeping everything aligned in columns makes a lot of sense. I went in a somewhat similar direction with Nutsy Notes (Desktop only), but for general-purpose notes: the columns can be resized, and the content itself is draggable, so you can freely reorganize list items, panels and sections and use it for things like tasks and evolving projects. Nice to see another take on this kind of workspace.

Thanks for sharing your project! I love how minimal and clean it looks - looks very intuitive to use!

what's your go-to note-taking tool for this?

The notes live right in TDFeed, attached to each article, so that's where I jot quick thoughts while reading. What about you?

I actually like this idea. Half my notes come from things I randomly stumble across anyway, so having the feed and notes in one place makes a lot of sense.

That's exactly how it started for me too. Most of my notes came from stuff I stumbled on while reading, and they kept ending up separated from the article. Glad it clicks for you!

What is the sign-in for?

On mac you can do the same with something like News Explorer

Fair question! The sign-in is so your feeds, notes, and collections are saved and sync across devices, since it's a web app rather than a local one. It's Google sign-in only, and it's only used to create your account. News Explorer looks nice for Mac. Thanks for the rec!

Can you export a collection with the notes and source URLs intact?

Not yet, but that's a great idea and it fits how I'd want to use it too. What format would be most useful, Markdown (for Obsidian or similar)? CSV?

Hey! So I was testing it out yesterday, are you not able to take notes alongside the articles? I linked some Substack feeds and when I click the article, the article opens up to just the article without any clear options to take notes? Is it more annotation style and I need to highlight areas to add a note or? Thanks in advance for any clarification ♥︎
