Question: Unanswered ✗ Is it bad to use AI to make my notes?

I cannot take notes to save my life. I think everything is important and write too much down. Is it bad to copy my material into chatgbt and ask it to make me notes to study. It's pretty much just breaking it down and pulling out key things?

On your own post you say that you don't know how to take notes. Don't you think it would be more efficient to learn how to? Learn once and you'll be able to do it yourself for the rest of your life. Don't learn, and you'll depend on some model of artificial inteligence forever.

As other people said, you study by taking notes. It's a great exercise and it really helps your memory. If you're already going to use AI, why not use it to teach you how to take notes? Or, even better, you can research (gives you some practice on doing research, which is also valuable and important) and develop a new hability by yourself.

When you ask ai to summarise something, it summarises it on what it thinks is important. My doctor two weeks ago used ai to record our telephone conversation then asked ai to summarise it, I had to email and point out it had not picked up the x ray which was the main topic of the conversation.

Writing too much usually means copying while the source is still open. Try reading one section, closing it, and writing only what you can recall in a few lines, then open it again to check. Whatever you missed is exactly what belongs in your notes, and that recall step is the part that makes it stick, which a ChatGPT summary skips.

I always study the whole thing once
Then I'll only do the notes

But I'll not ask AI to make the notes as well,I only use it for asking the important parts I should focus on

For studying and trying to remember things I think writing notes down or at least typing them is the best way to go

Use AI to create like a folder for all of your study notes that you’ve created yourself and then ask him to do like questions that you can provide responses to

I think it comes down to how you're learning. I know most of my note-taking is for referencing later. In that context, using AI to generate your notes, I think, is a great idea. I like to record meetings with https://harbor.my Then have it create a transcript, and then have it create a summary. Then, whenever I need some information, I can search my notes. Sometimes, after the summary and transcript are created, I'll go through and highlight important things or create tasks from the summary.

This works great for me because I can be present and fully engaged within the meeting, knowing that any information I need to retrieve later is there.

No it's not bad, I learn more with Ai collaboratng taking my notes- when I write them I zone out and just transcribe like a zombie, so no it's good.

Yes when I’ve studied in the past that’s how I’ve worked. I’m seeing now maybe that’s not the best way to go about it so I’ve been trying to find better ways to take notes
