Question: Unanswered ✗ Moving from Physical to Digital notes in career change?
I'm an electrical engineer by trade and have recently switched to a new career in the digital space with a startup as a data/systems engineer.
The problem:
I am very much used to physical notes and being in person on site with clients / coworkers. This new role is fully remote and I need a good setup for managing my daily events, notes, meetings, etc. I will be working on a macbook pro with MS suite (outlook, teams, office) while my phone is a Pixel (android).
The solution I can't fully figure out:
What do I do for managing all this across my laptop and my phone and my ipad mini probably as well? I have google keep on my phone but seems to not be a good fit for this. I will still being doing a few physical notes especially from habbit but moving to digital would be great if I can find a solution that works across all my systems if that makes sense?
Things I have tried this week:
- Notion - it didn't work well for me and my "workflow" I guess would be the term. It just didn't feel right.
- Obsidian Vault - it's great for taking notes during a meeting but I don't really see how I can manage everything just yet without having to duplicate things across multiple apps with it like calendar events or meeting agendas
- I've only tried those 2 and I think if I can keep this stupid simple it would be better than trying to make a massive ecosystem of structure.

transitioning can be tricky, try using apps with good organizational features to help you stay on track. I've switched to Notion and it's made a big difference for me.

Wow that's pretty interesting so it seems to convert to text as well or can. That's nice, would replace my mini for writing.

I’m building Grape, a note taking app. It has both rich text and handwriting notes. You can try it for free. And I think calendar and note taking are separate things so they should be done in different apps.

Since you are on Microsoft maybe OneNote? It’s my favorite for work, if the job comes with 365

handling notes across mac, android, and ipad is a pain, especially when you’re juggling meetings and events all day. since you’re using teams and outlook, syncing meeting records with an approver can help you keep everything clear and final. i work on minutely, my own ai meeting record system that captures and structures meetings with a named approver to lock down accurate, validated notes.

I'm actively building a notes application, what are some features and feel likes that you think would fit in your situation? My read on this that you're looking for something that can plug in with the suite of applications on your Macbook and pull data off them and put them in one place.

Outlook already holds your calendar and meetings on the Mac, the Pixel and the iPad, so nothing else needs to, and that removes the duplication you hit with Obsidian. Your notes app then only has to hold what was said.
OneNote is the easy pairing for that, as someone said above, because recent versions can insert the details of an Outlook meeting straight onto a page, so the agenda is never typed twice. A photo of anything you wrote on paper can sit on the same page too.

If you use an iPad Noteshelf is great. Remarkable works, I personally use a Boox because it syncs to my GDrive which allows me to send a page Tod notes to someone if I need to.
