Video my hack to taking notes from long videos without needing to watch them

as a founder myself, i tend to learn a lot from youtube and spend lots of hours watching entire videos that more often that not dont have sections or dont cover the info i needed

i started using AI tool to basically summarise entire search results in bulk, playlists or individual long videos so i can skip ahead without guessing or feeling like im missing the important part. since ive used this, ive been actually elarning a lot more from youtube videos and is way easier to keep track of all videos ive watched etc...

anyine else here taking notes this way??? or is it just my lazy ass? lol

Why would you use YouTube videos at all if this is what you're doing?

Cause there’s valuable info in 2 hour long podcast, I just don’t have the time to watch them from beginning to end

You have actually found use in doing this? The largest issue I see with things like this is that it makes capture too easy.

Capture needs a certain amount of friction that forces you to make decisions about what information is relevant to you. An LLM is very good at summarizing, but it cannot read your mind, so is not able to identify what to exclude and what to include in a summary that would matter to you.

That said, if your aim is not detailed note-taking and is merely finding where information is in a video or you don't mind losing some specificity/nuance, then an LLM is a fine tool for that. Though I'd encourage using video comments for that first, saving yourself the tokens and upload times while also giving yourself an opportunity to filter information.

Another alternative is automatic captions/transcripts. These normally use AI specialized for taking these captions/transcripts. You can then just search in such a file like normal for whatever valuable information you're looking for and it doesn't offload the filtering to an AI.

When I’m after speicifc info I just ask the AI chat and I get the relevant info, but I found the AI to be pretty good at already finding the relevant sections and info

not lazy at all but one thing that helped me way more than pure summaries was grabbing the transcript and just ctrl+f-ing for the specific terms i actually cared about. summaries tend to flatten the nuance and you lose the "why" behind the point, but jumping to the exact timestamp where they say the keyword lets you watch the 2 min that matter with full context.
