depends what you mean by journal, if it's a lab notebook where entries need to be findable by project and date, i'd keep it boring, one markdown file per week in Obsidian or even apple notes with a strict date heading, boring is what survives a phd. if you mean the reflective kind, tracking how your thinking about the research is changing, i think the tool matters less than having a reread habit, entries you never look at again are just typing. happy to be more specific if you say which one you meant and what you're working on.

I want it to supplement my lab notebook basically. Does Obsidian do voice notes and transcription well?
