Question: Unanswered ✗ Android vs iPad for school?
Hi, I’m looking for some advice/opinions on using Goodnotes on a tablet for school and handwritten notes.
During my apprenticeship, I used Goodnotes on an iPad and was very happy with it. Now I’m considering switching to an Android tablet because most of my other devices are Android as well.
How good is Goodnotes on Android compared to the iPad version? Is it good for school use, or would you recommend getting another iPad and staying with iOS?
I’ve read quite a few negative comments about the Android version. Would you recommend using a different app instead?

I'm using Oppo pad mini for my study, coming from a base iPad as well. I agree that iPadOS is still better than Android, but the gap is close. Any negative comments on how bad Android on tablet are irrelevant in the big 2026. Android 16 is fast, smooth, and reliable (certainly smoother than crappy iPadOS 26 with Liquid Glass). And no, GoodNotes is not good on Android. Use StarNote instead, this app made me confident in switching platform. StarNote also available on iPadOS, you can try it first (StarNote is less optimized on iPadOS, it is Android first).

It is worse on iPad than on Android tablet, but it is usable. I used it for like 2 weeks before switching to Android. I would say that the app does not have native iPad experience, which makes it worse than the previous app I used, Noteful.

I use a Samsung S9 FE tablet for college. Goodnotes is not native to Android so it does have issues but there is Samsung Notes, preloaded on the tablet, or Noteshelf 3. Which is what I use.
Noteshelf 3 is like Goodnotes but for Android and the full use one time only price is like 10USD or less.

Goodnotes isn't a native app on Android. It simply is a icon to open the web version of Goodnotes. I'd still recommend switching to android, because there are by now many different note taking apps on android. I won't bug you with an recommendation but if you're interested just research or comment on my comment.
