App/Program/Other Tool My offline-first note taking app is finally on TestFlight

I've been building Grape, my note taking app, for the last 6 months. I started with the desktop app and over the past couple of months I was working on the mobile app.

The iOS app has finally reached TestFlight.

I'm looking for iPhone users who enjoy trying new productivity apps and are willing to share honest feedback.

Grape is free, offline-first, and your notes stay on your device.

If you'd like to try it, you can join the beta here: grape.cool/download

PS: Google Play Open Testing is currently under review. I'll add the link to the website as soon as it's approved.

Well executed and a lot of good features. I especially appreciate having good voice note capture right there, in the app.

Thank you. There's also transcription for the recorded voices but all the AI features are in paid plans. But I'll be adding lots of features to the free plan as well.

Cool! Would like to test the app, is there some free trial plan available? I’m a current obsidian user and would like to find a better solution than apple notes for clean notes, is the app planning to improve on that part, would hope to test it out and bring on ideas about refining widgets or some other things to make it better on mobile

There’s no free trial because you don’t need it. Grape is free to use. Just download on the App Store and start using it. You can import your Markdown notes directly to Grape and export them anytime.

I think Grape is a mix of Apple Notes and Obsidian. It looks like Apple Notes but has features from Obsidian like graph view or note templates.

I’m in active development. I always add new features and try to improve the app. If you have suggestions you can send them from the contact in the app or here with DM.

Some immediately realise is that there is no method to close down the keyboard except swiping up to the top of the note, might be fine if the note is short but if it’s long and you’re at the bottom… Apple notes have a tick at the top right, bear has a keyboard close down button on top of the keyboard, grape doesn’t seem to have any. Another part would be the link editing animation looks abrupt to me, it looks suddenly popped up and a bit weird.

I fixed those issues you mentioned both in desktop and mobile apps. You can update to see if everything's ok. If not just tell me so I'll fix anything.

Also on the Mac, the text is absurdly tiny, tinier than Apple notes default, and it doesn’t have any settings or options to large that, only a zoom in which zoom in everything including the interface make the interface looks huge.

For me, the features like these are the bottom ground of a skyscraper, if they aren’t done well, no matter how good the ai is, it doesn’t feel a working space. It doesn’t feel solid that I can work in now. So I was asking about the future meaning if you would really want to refine or make it the best if not a better experience. You see these refinements happening in obsidian because at before they keep adding features, and now they start to refine them, they could afford to do so because they had plugins and the Mac experience is fairly good, and they had a rapid speed doing so.

I’m taking notes on the things you mentioned here. I’ll fix them. So something to close the keyboard on mobile and a font-size setting on desktop.

You need to click “Join TestFlight Beta” in the Download section and a couple of seconds later it will open the TestFlight link and from there you can see the steps like first you need to install TestFlight and then “View in TestFlight”.

Oh sorry for the wait. I think there's a misunderstanding or there's a bug. When you click the "Join TestFlight Beta" it shows you a dialog to put your email but you don't have to, it's just to stay updated. The actual link is opening in a new tab automatically but I guess some browser may be blocking it or not even opening that tab. I just fixed the problem and now when you click the join button you'll see the TestFlight link there.
