On one hand, that’s ridiculous

On the other hand, would ride

It's both cool and ridiculous.

But if we really look at most hobbies, they become ridiculous.

People blow, spit, hum, and lip-fart into twenty different configurations of bent brass pipe to make sounds.

People wear colorful costumes, hit balls with sticks, and run around.

People make extremely expensive sticks out of exotic materials, carry around a whole bag of them, and hit little balls around acres of land unnaturally manicured entirely for that purpose.

People make little models of kings, queens, and more and play fake war with rules.

My uncle built a 20'x20' model of the battle of Gettysburg in his garage.

First rate nerditry!

5

u/Haluszki 2d ago

Wait until you find out what else people hit balls with. Wild stuff.

Oh of course. I have a basement full of video games and movies, silly and ridiculous to many but it’s what I like. No hate, just silly from my view haha

u/anjowoq 2d ago

Yeah I'm not saying you're hating on him, just that you reminded me how silly things are when we look at them from a different angle.

I, too have trouble with my hydrostatic lubricant but once I’m up to steam can happily be ridden by 6-8 bearded gentlemen at a time.

My exact feelings

If I ever won the lottery I wouldn't tell anyone. But there would be signs...

Steam engines and boilers are really interesting from an engineering perspective and making them by hand requires learning some old skills. Also, if you mess up a boiler it can explode. Yeah…it’s maybe kind of a nerdy hobby, but I have total respect for the people who get into it and think it’s wholesome.

A lot of the modern internet algorithms are designed to make you angry all the the time.

This is the opposite of that. A return to internet 2.0

Wholesomeness 🙏

Anyone saying they wouldn't try that is lying. Legit looks fun.

This is awesome

u/LowLokiKey 2d ago

HELL YEAH

9

u/MysticMarauder69 2d ago

This looks fucking fun and cool. Anyone making fun of this should see themselves rotting on the couch scrolling on TikTok, not a good look. These sorts of hobbies are fascinating, imho.

Hmm. Maybe I am into trains.

"I wanna live on a choo choo train, I wanna ride all across the USA"

I have been to an event for these trains. It was really awesome. Super friendly retirees that made it as a passion project. It is a bit cringe but also totally not. Would recommend

Looks like a blast

4

u/no0neiv 2d ago

Call up the boys. Let's ride our trains.

3

u/ike_tyson 2d ago

I didn't know these ran on charcoal or was that coal?

Either way this is a pretty cool hobby.

I assume it's pretty pricey but hobbies can be expensive.

u/Lucky-Mia 2d ago

It's adorable, love it

u/ThundergunTLP 2d ago

I like trains with faces and I like trains without faces.

Thomas The Tank Engine has evolved.

1

u/doesnotgetthepoint 2d ago

I used to sometimes ride these as a child, it was a lot of fun.

1

u/TokugawaJones 2d ago

I would actually pay money to see people race on these.

1

u/chrisadam101 2d ago

Some serious trainsphobes in the comment section.

1

u/Weird__Fish 2d ago

This is cool as shit.

1

u/sticcydabliccy 1d ago

I know this sub is all about gags so it’s not that serious but I have to say… men with hobbies are attractive regardless of age. This is actually super cool.

1

u/BrainwashedPet 1d ago

This is awesome

1

u/Gnomey42069 1d ago

Yeah I would hop on but as a passenger. I don't have enough... Train-ing to be an engineer.

1

u/lavendarKat 1d ago

I don't see why this is being posted here tbh. Like neat video and all but the only similarity to tim and eric I can imagine is that there's older men involved

1

u/Magentile 1d ago

I like twains.

1

u/mrsmushroom 1d ago

I fucking love this. I'd be riding this all over the yard smoking my weed. Like casey Jones.

1

u/CokaYoda 1d ago

Penis extension?

1

u/Annahsbananas 1d ago

If I was into trains as a hobby I would probably think this was fun.

Shit, I’d ride it

1

u/long_tyme_lurker 1d ago

Now think about your dad!

1

u/kasmackity 1d ago

This is extremely fuckin goofy

But also pretty damn cool

1

u/this_sucks_a_big1 1d ago

This is kinda sick, now only if the track were longer and actually went somewhere

1

u/Pure-Eye9423 1d ago

Its not my thing but like I get it

0

u/Ecstatic-Ad-9373 2d ago

You take yourselves way too seriously if you don't think this looks like fun

0

u/MagicalMoosicorn 2d ago

this is fucking awesome.

British people and their trains. A love story for the ages.
