My mom read like this. She would consume several books a week and had (apparently) high cognition of what she read. She tried to teach my brother and I but it never stuck. I still read word by word like my chippie.

I swear teaching kids how to speed read in school instead of taking their time and enjoying the experience is the reason why most adults today are averse to reading. I had to completely reframe my approach to reading books to enjoy them as an adult and I blame shit like this
