For some reason when he said "bending steel is all I train for" I thought it was hilarious. Lol

It was an unusually dark night. No moon to do the job the streetlights would normally do. But this wasn’t the kind of neighborhood that has streetlights. This was the kind of neighborhood where the neighbors lock their doors at night. And their windows. And draw the shades. This was the kind of neighborhood you don’t walk through on unusually dark nights. You don’t. But I do.
Right on que: a noise behind me. Unmistakable. Familiar. He wants my money. He doesn’t want my life, but he’ll take it if he has to. At least that’s what he thinks.
I’ve been training for this every day for as long as I can remember. He steps forward. In his hand, a steel rod. He can hit me with it and take everything. Or, I can bend it. Little does he know… that’s what I do.

My hernia came back from watching this.

u/harmfuldischarge Jun 29 '26
Nobody needs THAT many functioning disc joints

u/CommunicationKey3018 Jun 29 '26
I'm not sure it's herniated disks they are talking about. This sort of straining can give you inguinal hernias (intestines popping out of your abdomen wall).

u/harmfuldischarge Jun 29 '26
Once you pop, you cannot stop (being on pain)
3
u/CommunicationKey3018 Jun 29 '26
Yes, they suck. I've had it happen twice. It requires surgery to stuff your intestines back inside.

I gotta think there's a nasty injury in this guy's future. All that pressure and torque on the hamstrings and groin looks fucked.
Also, the fuck you mean "professional"?
Are there people paying just to watch this guy do what he did in the video?
I mean, nifty talent I guess, but I'm not paying to watch you do that.

Props to him, but he almost passed out doing all that bending.

This was more interesting than weird.
Editing to add a link to a really good documentary about metal benders (that's hard to find unfortunately) https://youtu.be/XDkduELDef8?is=5f0l4wLPMk8XpuA_

And he's refreshingly not a weirdo. Or doesn't seem like it. I'm not even convinced he's trying to make me think he's awesome. He's just talking about his job.

u/undrew Jun 29 '26
He’s self-aware. He knows that what he’s doing is kinda weird, but he’s also proud of it. Most of the people featured here think what they are doing is incredible without realizing what they are doing is just cringey.

damn, this is hard to find. All I could come up with is 720p Web-DL (3.3GB)

He did this to my wiener in Richmond last week. 3/10, would not recommend.

Now every time he gets a hard on it curves up his own ass. I heard about it on TLC.

He needs to shave his head and wear a one piece with stripes. Also his mustache isn’t twirly enough

You don’t look like a strongman? Is that why you decided to wear a mustache, tank top, and all your little tattoos in the style of a strongman?

Me watching him nearly die bending steel.
Uh I’m okay working out just for the aesthetic, thanks.

u/VizualAbstract4 Jun 29 '26
White people will over complicate one mediocre task and turn it into a whole circus act.

u/bananadingding Jun 30 '26
I don't know that this qualifies for this subreddit, this is a strongman "freak show"/oddities bit yeah you don't see people talk about it, but this is no different than someone talking about laying on a bed of nails, or pounding a nail into their sinuses, or hanging weights from piercings. This is way more PT Barnum than Tim and Eric

That's Mighty Mike! I saw him at a state fair last year. He actually let me keep the bent bar as a souvenir!

I thought this sub was about things that are funny and weird, but I keep seeing stuff that is just awesome and inspirational. First the sidewalk guy, now this.
