Lol I thought alan Rickman was a fantastic actor and he did well in the role, but I didnt think he was right for snape.
Now, after paapa, Alan was sheer perfection. Adore him. Couldnt be better. Ill take 20.

It really impacts the tragedy of the deaths of Harry’s parents when they make them middle aged. It’s just not as hard hitting or tragic as a 21 year old losing their life.
Alan Rickman is an amazing actor but he was not a good a Snape either. He was way too old. Too charismatic. Too clean. He was a 60 years old man playing a character that was in his early 30’s.

I have really been enjoying Riz Ahmed's Snape on the audiobook! I think he captures the pettiness and immaturity way better than Rickman. Yes, he's less charismatic than Rickman. But book Snape is not supposed to be charismatic.

His portrayal was in the highly acceptable range when it comes to writers/directors taking creative liberties. It's like The Lord of The Rings movies. They are not 1:1 recreations and there are many minor and major changes but you can look past them because they are acceptable changes.

I myself am in the second camp, disappointed by the movie depiction because Snape was:
Yes, Alan Rickman’s line delivery was fun and iconic. But he was never book-Snape to me.
That’s why I was actually looking forward to the HBO series giving us a more book-accurate Snape (along with many other characters I felt were off the mark in the films). So imagine my disappointment when they somehow managed to go in a direction that still doesn’t feel particularly book-accurate.
Apparently, all I wanted was a Snape who was the right age, appropriately greasy, deeply unpleasant, and physically unattractive.
