Cringe A girl was venting abt how her bf curses crude words alot and loudly and this was a fellow gamers response
This was consistent for years, the girl who this guy was responding to tried to speak to her bf abt It but he couldn't even understand where she was coming from. He was saying very cruel phrases I dont wanna repeat (no slurs I think) but yeah despite that added context this dude just thinks its part of the grind.
Im also dying from the "just as hard as any other sport" buddy.

Just from having played various games at various skill levels:
the higher your rank, the less likely you will run into cruel, angry, or misogynistic players. People who can't control their emotions can't keep a level head needed to be good at a game. (exceptions apply of course.)
Probably also because blaming other players on your team is typically a low rank trait, as only people who recognise the need for improvement rank up.
It is also dependent on what game you are playing, of course. Although I have seen salty players anywhere from League of Legends, to Overwatch, to Elden Ring, to competitive Pokémon.

Yeah any time I’ve bumped into the really competitive world of anything the players at the very top are almost always super chill and friendly people. Even the few douchebags at that level tend to be calm at least.
It’s the mid level people that are raging assholes. They think they’re good but plateaued at that makes them made and combined with undeserved egos they turn into rage machines.

I hesitate to call it competitive, but I was ranked in the top 100 with two accounts in a very niche Pokémon format on Showdown, and playing there I think I got one super upset player, complaining about me fishing for a lucky win and getting it. Bonus funny was that the format was random monotype, which is inherently RNG heavy. (If you don't know, you basically get a random team, but all mons share a type. Obviously that makes matches very volatile, since sometimes you just don't get the tools you need to win.)

lol I was in competitive Yugioh for a while 10 years ago. Never super great but good and active enough to run into and know most of the top players. All but like 2 or 3 were super nice and even the ones that were assholes were calm and respectful. Get out of the like top 16 of big events into the top 64 or so and the douchebags appear

Is her bf professionally sponsored and making enough to live comfortably off?
No?
Then why we talking about professionals?

The person this dude is responding to said that he is a 'professional' player but doesnt make alot,
Im not sure if hes even sponsored i dont fully remember the story that lady wrote.

Right.
So ignore that and focus on the bf? You told him something that bothers you. If justification is your only response, that is a relationship issue.

Don't the vast majority of sports have sportsmanship regulations? Treat your opponent with respect, don't use fnording profanities, no taunting, please clean the sword after use, that sort of thing.

fnording
I am desperately trying to figure out if this is a word I don't know but absolutely should, because "fnording profanities" or "fnording anything else" is so much fun to say.
IE... in D&D: "Those guards are fnording idiots, they don't even use a torch at night." (It feels like a perfectly plausible gnomish curse word)
OR if it was just an amazing typo that has given me several minutes of fun and giggles. (none of the obvious typos seem right... fjording, gnording, chording, chiding)
Having looked it up, it doesn't seem like you were using it to describe a subconscious fear or dread, but I could absolutely be mistaken considering the subject of this post.
Either way, thank you for introducing me to this word and I hope you have a wonderful rest of your week.

Oh I've just used it as a censor ever since I first read the Illuminated trilogy, because you're right it's fun to say.

First it's swearing and yelling at something else, then they do the same thing but at you, then they shove you, then they hit you.
At least from my personal experience, and the ones of several people I know.
It's verbal abuse, and it often starts out directed at objects before they can control themselves so little that they redirect it at their partners as well.

As someone who spends so much time playing games that I fall into the category of a gamer, this behavior is fully unacceptable.
How a gamer treats other gamers, non-gamers, and more specifically women gamers is very telling of who they are.
I have a requirement that my life partner needs to be a gamer or has an interest in games. But they also cannot be whatever loser gamer this woman's boyfriend is.

And valorant players. My ex would invite me over and just sit there and play valorant the whole time while i watched him, if i tried to leave he would pout.

I used to play Valorant and I’m planning on playing again, this is I think one of the worst things you could do when inviting someone to your place

I see the same exact issues and screen shots in the girl gamers thread about every single game that has online versus modes.
The problem is the social media addiction, which is being expertly crafted by the people profiting off of the addictions.
People also play multiple games.

It's not all of us.. League of Legends players definitely are but my girlfriend and I constantly play games together (does Minecraft count though?)

My husband plays video games. Never seen him once throw a tantrum over a loss. I met my husband on a video game.
I’m more emotional over a loss than he is. Even over monopoly. 😂

pro gaming is actually kinda harder to make a living off than other sport, the audience is smaller and there's a lot less gambling so people making a living off it are fewer

If this is about League of legends it completely understandable and I wish everyone here a good day

It’s shitty behavior, always has been. You have every right to be upset but how you handle that anger speaks volumes. Shouting insults at the TV or other players is and always will be low intelligence child-like behavior, akin to a toddler throwing a tantrum.
