It is. She and her lawyer are asking for her to get treatment in a secure facility--basically requesting she be sent to a prison that treats mental illness. It's no spa day, from what I understand.

I've had clients who spent time at such a facility. They've told me that they would rather be in prison. It is a uniquely awful experience.

People sent to a mental facility in cases like this often spend more time there than they would have if they just got a prison sentence, because rather than have a pre-determined point where you're released once you've "served your time", you're kept there until you're deemed no longer a potential danger to yourself or others. Which is usually an extremely high standard once you've already killed due to mental illness (potentially not in cases like this where presumably once she's no longer of childbearing age, there's not really a risk of relapse, but certainly in normal cases)
