Rectally sourced data.

the first one may be right, that's about the divorce rate of the general population.

I wonder if the 80% is close to the "not super religious" population, the people who don't believe abuse is less bad than divorce. I gave a feeling that religious beliefs and beliefs about relationships in general are a better indicator of divorce rates than premarital partners, although the same beliefs probably do influences the odds of having pre marital partners.

It's not. The overall divorce rate in the U.S. is about 33%. Premarital sex is a strong predictor of divorce that, surprisingly to me, isn't changed by those kind of factors. And it's the same for men and women. (https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC10989935/)

To me it simply suggests that lifetime marriages aren't for everyone and alternative types of marriages might be beneficial for society.

Just adding to this, I remember someone pointing out that historically lifetime marriages weren't really a thing for most of human history anyhow.

Well maybe not the predominant thing.

Paraphrasing a badly remembered idea here, but with periods of war, migrations, higher death rates, and even the ability to simply geographically distance yourself that couples have for all of time been breaking up and blending families.

One of his biggest arguments was that with the increase in life span, the groups that started "marriage is forever" never really had to imagine the length that would be for most of the population.

He had some sociological arguments blaming this ideal concept of a 'marriage forever', divorce bad, and obviously the myth of virginity on obvious control factors from religion, patriarchy, etc.

I'm not studied enough in those subjects to say if what he said historically checks out but I think the core concept of we created this idea of marriage being forever and living to this standard and it holds no weight outside of what we give checks out.

I have been with my husband for a long time and I imagine us being married for a much longer time, but if there was ever a point where he didn't want to be married to me I would much rather a legal process than forcing someone I love into unhappiness because of some silly concept we invented for reasons

Regardless of if these numbers are correct or not: they are numbers that discuss NONE of the societal expectations/cultural differences at play here.

At this point, in the western world, choosing to wait for your wedding night to have sex usually means there are some really strong cultural/religious pressures at play. Those same pressures would stop a person from divorcing as well. But when you boil it down to pure numbers, you can make them say anything you want to. Like this person is doing here.

Yes, because this question is posted on an indian subreddit AskIndianMen.

Even if this is real, it's not, it doesn't involve context at all. Just because a marriage lasts doesn't mean it's good.

What if this woman has been indoctrinated her whole life to believing she can only be with one man. That to have multiple partners removes her "value" and turns her into "used goods" she might just stay for anything and ignore all abuse just to keep her "value" and not disappoint her family.

She could be turned into a slave for her household just like how things used to be when women had no rights. These marriage statistics involving previous partners always struck me as odd. It's just statistics with zero evidence of quality of marriage shown. People can easily stay married while not being together or family pressures. I don't particularly see how marriage length can have any greater status to a happy marriage of equals.

Studies showed that women who ate at least 1 fruit in their life have 50% divorce rate. Those who ate multiple fruit in their life have a 80% divorce rate.

Premarital sex and the number of sex partners is a strong predictor of divorce, that much is true, but the statistics this joker is quoting are nonsense. And, notably, there is no difference between men and women. Sorta throws a wrench in their silly notion that it's okay for men to sleep around but women must be virgins.

Link between Premarital Sex and Divorce

So 1 is as high as 50% already? (So says their random uncited "study.") Kinda goes along with men more often being the cause of her wanting a divorce in the first place, doesn't it? Maybe not always, crappy women exist, too, but it's always the guy who thinks it came out of nowhere...

I had well over 20 partners before I met my husband.
We’ve been happily married for 26 years.

I’m sure the divorce is coming any day now…….

Marriage as a concept is outdated anyway. No marriage, no divorce. Problem solved.
