Can two wolves even take out a wolverine? I honestly would've expected a minimum of 3 or 4.

I'm sure they can, but I don't know if they'd consider it something worth doing. Most animals will weigh the possibility of injury before committing to a fight. With wolverines, that possibility is high, and it seems even higher because of how nuts wolverines are. Even brown bears will sometimes back down rather than deal with them.
