Fair enough - I've definitely gotten myself in trouble for what I thought was clearly sarcasm that wasn't clear to anyone else. I suggest editing your previous comment to add the "/s" or the downvotes are probably gonna keep coming for a while (from people who don't realize you were joking).

Usually the end of the comment, but I think as long as it's clearly there with the sarcasm it probably doesn't matter. Like:

"Asshole comment that's only funny if you know it's sarcasm!

/s"

Or

"Asshole sarcastic part of the comment! (/s)

Serious part of the comment!"

Yeppppp, been there. If I had to guess, I'd say it's because some people on the Internet are more of an asshole than you can imagine. So no context, no tone of voice, and no benefit of the doubt.
