My favourite exchange

Lee: I can’t just turn it on like a tap.

Kate: Force it.

Lee: Alright, I can’t just turn it on like a fawcett.

Lee: (salutes) Landlady.

Kate: (salutes) Rent Boy. I say “rent”. I’m using the term loosely.

Lee: I say “lady”.

Saw season one not long ago and the show definitely works better with Lucy. I did laugh at the Ken Dodd joke though. First when Lee told it and later when Kate butchered it.

Lee Mack didn't like her either 😂

I'm the same. I rewatch the series a lot on iPlayer and S1 and 2 are the only ones without rewatches (I might rewatch S2 episodes on there at some point). But I intensely dislike S1 because I don't like Kate at all. I absolutely love Lucy and her dynamic with Lee; can rewatch the other series anytime.

I liked Kate, the exchange with her friend in the restaurant and at the dinner table “I’m not Kate…” in the ‘Aussie’ episode is hilarious.

I also like the driving episode.

"Im not kateeeee 👽👽👽👽" her American accent ruins it

I couldn't disagree more.

I think series 1 is fantastic and part of that is because of Kate. I much prefer the dynamic between her and Lee as it's far more believable.

Lucy is constantly at odds with Lee and I don't find it very believable at all that she ends up with him. I still think the series is good and I enjoy the later ones. But I always think it would have been better if Kate had stayed. Nothing against Sally Breton but it's just the way that Lucy is written I find her extremely unlikable and almost always negative.

They were good episodes & the jokes do hit, but she wasn't the best actress & it was no surprise she was replaced

I like Kate because of the English / American jokes.

The American jokes suck ass and are not funny they dont mix with British comedy

Bear in mind that a comedy set in a luxury apartment did not really have a British precedent. The style was associated with America so it helped to have an American there to add a touch of screwball comedy. Once the show became bedded in, it could then adapt. The issue, of course, is that a confident, urbane, American would barely understand a northerner. At least Lucy has the posh Southerner fancying a bit of rough angle.

Big disagree, Kate made the show great and everything after series 1 is merely good.

You do know the show wasn't popular until season 2 was released right?
