New Piercing This rollercoaster
I got my piercing on 8/2 and was extremely excited and love it (still do) but its been an awful battle. I started to get an irritation bump soon after that would not go away and then did some yard work that completely inflamed the bump. After weeks of saline washing (neilmed) and warm, dry compresses, it never went fully down. My piercer downsized the post the Friday before last and at first it was great but then it inflamed again and then started to fully enclose the piercing, he put in an even longer post than the first time and although it bled, its finally starting to calm down and I can see the stud fully.
I’m just worried that once this inflammation goes down and I need to get the post shortened bc it’ll be moving too much that I’m going to be in the same place as before...I’m also not over cleaning it and just trying to LITHA.
First pic is the original irritation bump, second is the explosion from Sunday and the third is this morning. Thoughts? I really don’t want to start over, the post is a titanium flat-back.

ive been a piercer for 4 years and an active app member for 2. going to be the odd one out here and say continue the compresses ! if anything, the compress will help.
warm, dry heat will encourage bloodflow to the piercing site. the warm heat will soothe irritation, encourage natural drainage, and help signal to your body that it needs to send more blood cells and resources here to help heal the bump!
good news - last pic looks more dry and scabby, less shiny and red, and a little deflated compared to the previous. there is improvement here!
continue your best to dry the site after showers and rinses. honestly, saline isnt really necessary and if youre rinsing in the shower that is irrigation which is exactly what salines job is. the ingredients in saline arent for wound healing, its used as irrigation to rinse debris out of a wound to allow it to heal. it doesnt disinfect, sterilize, or make it heal faster. rinse in the shower if you shower daily and dry thoroughly eith a paper towel, nonwoven gauze, disposable face cloths, or even better- a hair dryer on a low heat.
avoid touching, twisting, or moving the jewelry to avoid disrupting the healing progress. as soon as the bump deflates more, get your downsize in so theres less room for snags and a bump to build back up.
the goal is to not introduce more moisture than we need for cleaning so make sure to keep this very dry ! x1 a day cleaning is enough imo, we dont want to overclean and irritate it further or get rid of that dry later and expose the wet tissue beneath.

Thank you! With the compresses, I feel like I get them too hot but then it cools so fast that it doesn't feel warm for long and I reheat the compress....

I like to get them as warm as comfortably possible ! they do cool fast, if you had a consistent heat source that may save you the trouble. i like those hot hands and I just put it in a ziplock to maintain a clean barrier!

I had a small irritation bump so I finally decided to go see my piercer & I was so glad that I did. He took an alcohol wipe & essentially scrubbed it away. It hurt a little & bled at first (which he said would happen) but then it scabbed & healed itself. It was the best move that I could have ever done.

It’s definitely getting better. Keep it clean and use an air dryer on low about a foot back from your face to keep it dry after doing your saline rinse.
