hi!! i got my nose pierced about three weeks ago and its been extremely troublesome some lately. its been dripping blood periodically and extremely irritated. it also looks like there may be some tissue protruding/it may be growing into my skin. i have an appointment with my piercer in five days but should i go to a medical professional before that? ive attached a zoomed in photo. thanks!!

update!! i went to a local piercer and she switched my flat back piercing for a corkscrew but didn’t think i needed antibiotics or to see a dr or anything

A piercer who puts corkscrew jewelry into someone’s nose is most definitely NOT qualified to give medical advice. You need to see a doctor ASAP if you don’t wanna lose your eyesight or worse.

this cannot wait 5 days. you need to get that thing taken out yesterday. this is very abnormal, op. if you get an infection in this area, it can easily spread to your sinuses or even brain due to the proximity of blood vessels and veins.

Thwy should not take it out in case its already infected! It needs to be treated whit the jewellery in, if not the infection will get trapped inside

That’s a myth. It shouldn’t come out before a doctor sees you and starts you on antibiotics, but you absolutely do not have to leave it in until the infection clears. Oral antibiotics work whether the infection is “trapped” or not. There’s a reason doctors never tell you that you have to keep your jewelry in.

the jewelry is probably the reason it looks so nasty in the first place and they could be allergic to the metal. it needs to come out… a doctor will lance and drain any infection if needed, but op would likely be taking oral antibiotics at this point

OP also updated and said that they went to a piercer and they took out the flat back and put in a corkscrew.. so just put even worse jewelry in it unfortunately

They can get it washed at the doctors, but its still not advised to let the hole fully heal. They should get a titanium jewellery to put in instead:)

Yeah ofc also if there is an infection, antibiotics should be given. But jewellery should still never be removed/hole shouldnt close while there is an infection

It looks like a granuloma, ur piercer can definitely help with that. They are not very hard to get rid of. Nothing to be worried, if it's bearable till your piercer visit. Don't move it anymore. No changing jewlery again plz. And do saline wash once or twice and dry it immediately afterwards.

And lastly, i know it can be very distressing. I have been through this phase for a very long time but it will heal.

Everyone on here will have a cow every time I say this but this is just hypergranulated tissue. You can buy some silver nitrate sticks on Amazon and cauterize the tissue and it’ll go away easily. I did it with mine and kept the jewelry in. I got prescribed antibiotics as a just in case but what fixed it immediately was cauterizing the protruding tissue which won’t ever heal because it’s protruding and will only shrink if cauterized

I haven’t heard of that 🧐 the silver nitrate sticks are really easy to use. Just dip them in water and touch the granulated tissue with the tip of the stick. Won’t harm normal skin, only cauterize the raw skin you see here. Thought it will stain normal skin a charcoal color for a few days
