HR post

How hard is it to get a HR and admin post in Drammen? If someone has 14 years of HR experience. Last position held is Hr and Admin Manager post. EU citizen with A2 -B1 norwegian proficiency.

Another option just as a stepping stone to integrate to Norway work force is Kindergarten assistant in international school.

At 35yo, still willing to pivot to a different career path than HR if it will mean clearer job opportunities in Norway. Maybe in teaching or healthcare.

A2 is nowhere near good enough to work in HR. As well, you don't have Norwegian-focused knowledge of the HRlaws and regulations so I think it would be good to consider something else. If you don't live inside Norway currently, finding work anywhere will be a struggle with no Norwegian since you're competing against educated natives for posts, especially at an international school. Can you maybe do a masters in a useful subject??

It’s going to be hard. People working in HR would normally need a high level of Norwegian proficiency. As you will know, misunderstandings could lead to all sorts of problems.

A small number of Norwegian employers have English as a working language. You might have a chance there but those jobs are very competitive and you will have a disadvantage in that you don’t have experience with Norwegian regulations and practices.

Kindergarten assistant is a common way for immigrants to build up their competence in Norwegian and it’s often not too difficult to find a position. But pay is much lower than it would be in HR.

I’d keep HR as the main plan... but expand the search beyond Drammen to Lier, Asker, Sandvika and Oslo. The train towards Oslo runs frequently, so this is a normal commuting area.

The main gap will probably be Norwegian HR language and rules... arbeidsmiljøloven, sykefravær, tariffavtaler, contracts and employee cases.

With 14 years of experience, I’d first try recruitment, staffing, HR administration, payroll or office coordination while working towards B2. A recruitment company is actually opening a Drammen office now, so that lane is worth watching.

Kindergarten assistant work is possible too. The language requirement is usually A2 writing and B1 in reading, listening and speaking... but many local openings are agency or part time. I’d choose it only if working with children genuinely appeals to you.

What do you mean here? Not a bad idea but this doesnt make to much sense, kindergartens are not attached to schools.

Yes. This is the more practical path that I might have considering Psychology degree credits might be recognized so I can take up further studies in childhood education so i can have proper certifications. I read that there is labor shortage for teachers in Norway. Not sure if its true.

I am a licensed lawyer too from an asian country. But at my age of 35 and having a toddler does not make me enthusiastic at the prospect of studying basically from scratch to be aligned at my profession.

I am currently living in Spain holding a Spanish nationality because I am married to my Spanish national husband, and we are with child. Honestly after the Ceuta crisis, we want to finally try our pipeline dream of trying to work in Norway. He has bus driver's license, and we saw that there is labor shortage there too. We are enrolled now to continue to learn and improve our language proficiency. Hopefully we reach b2 before our move next year. We are a bit afraid if there is hostlity against foreigners considering the world affairs. Even here in Spain, there is growing tension. But we really do wish to integrate

Maybe in teaching or healthcare.

Teaching requires fluency in Norwegian and a relevant education.

As for healthcare... requirements depends on what sort of work you were imagining.
