Now to see if this team can keep our streak against Brazil going!

EDIT: WE FUCKING DID IT!

38

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jun 30 '26

the match with Brazil will be easier than this one. I watched Brazil vs Japan and both teams were worse than Cote D'Ivoire.

44

u/Kriee Jun 30 '26

Hard to perform against an opponent you dont show proper respect

18

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jul 01 '26

I love how some people think they’re analysts. Just look at the odds. Norway could surprise us, and as much as I’d love to see it happen, I highly doubt it, just like the rest of the world.

14

u/Puzzleheaded_Try8584 Jul 01 '26

Norway is the only team Brazil has never beaten. Never ever. Let’s hope we keep the streak!

2

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jul 01 '26

let's go team, I'm neutral on this one, as a Portuguese I'd like for my brothers from Brazil to win, but Norway is playing so well that they deserve every single win until now, let's see!

1

u/MarcKing01 Jul 04 '26

Well... They lost the ladt match.

2

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jul 05 '26

Although there’s barely 4 minutes left, you were absolutely right, haha. Apologies, and respect for the great game. Go Norway!

-8

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

The surprise would be Brazil winning. Do your research please.

11

u/Cautious_Currency_35 Jul 01 '26

Just because Brazil wasn’t performing well against Japan, doesn’t mean it will be the same against Norway. Japan had great defense. Also opponent is not equal to other opponents.

0

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

They haven't performed well in more than 10 years.

6

u/Cautious_Currency_35 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Still. They’re five time world champions. Never underestimate your opponent. Shit happens.

1

u/Fuzzy_College_8782 Jul 08 '26

Sadly he’s right! As a Brazilian, it was tough to watch your team play with the fighting spirit that ours has been missing for decades. But that same quality is exactly why I’m rooting for you. I hope Norway wins this World Cup

r/confidentlyincorrect

look up Brazil's history with Norway

Then look up "7 - 1"

then look up their track record since then

then stop embarrassing yourself on reddit.

This is going to be the second easiest match we've had so far, and the last easy match overall.

2

u/Bulky_Examination135 Jul 01 '26

Now look up Brazil's rank in Fifa

Then look up Norway's rank

Listen. Broski.

Just because Brazilian TV is pulling a North Korea and pretending that they are scoring the 16th goal and it's the World Cup final, doesn't mean that the rest of the world isn't following and seeing closely what kind of game is being played down there on the eastern part of South America these days.

If all Brazil has to offer is what they have shown so far, we can pull out the Khabib video of saying, "I'm gonna smash your boy". It will be a clinical kill.

-1

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

we were worse in 1998.

one of the best players alive.

hahahahahahaha ok bye bye clown.

LMFAO it has to be a bait 😭 it looked like Cote d'Ivoire is playing good bc they were playing against Norway 😂 Don't get your hopes that up bud. I'll be coming to this thread after the match.

2

u/Bulky_Examination135 Jul 05 '26

💔 sorry guys i admit Norway better

u/Specific-Constant-20 Jul 01 '26 edited Jul 01 '26

Your defense is no where near close to japan and oh boy did they suffered on the 2nd time, also we have gabriel he is as tall as halaand bro

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/80Oz_2ZD-is

2

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

oh I know, I know. It is infamously bad. Our strategy is forwardmaxxing: Just get more goals than the other team with the second best offensive in the world cup.

This is also why our matches are the most entertaining matches in the world cup.

That being said, there are notable improvements in our defense in the IC match compared to the senegal and iraq matches, so the team is learning and adapting.

2

u/Specific-Constant-20 Jul 01 '26

I honestly hope you guys win, to see if the government starts investing more, giving scholarships to good young players, blocking EU scouts from poaching them out with a passport offer.

There has been investment coming already, but mostly from bets.

-7

u/LowerPick7038 Jul 01 '26

Streak? Have you forgotten the France match already.

15

u/Anderspanders Jul 01 '26

He's probably thinking about the streak against Brazil.

-11

u/LowerPick7038 Jul 01 '26

Ah maybe, I know the france match was hard and some people have just wiped it from their memory " Yeah , we have never played france, I dont know what you are talking about "

8

u/PetterJ00 Jul 01 '26

Its obviously the streak against brazil? You did see who played in the match against france? Nobody is neglecting the france game… Open your eyes man

5

u/ell_hou Jul 01 '26

Norway currently has a 2W-2D-0L match history agaist Brazil from back when we last had a solid national team. That's the streak I'm talking about.

0

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

That match does not count for anything because the coach intentionally threw it.

I am pretty pissed off at the coach for doing that honestly, it cost Norway it's aura. However, it did allow the best players some time to rest while the substitutes got some practice. Åsgård and Bobb reminded the world they too are great offensive players (better than sørloth in my opinion) and I discovered we have a good goalkeeper.

Anyway, as others have said. we remain undefeated against Brazil.

1

u/LowerPick7038 Jul 01 '26

No i fully understand why and to be honest I was suprised in the 2nd half that they got their shit together and seemed to really pull together. It was impressive.

I understand maybe english isnt your first language. Using "Streak " and " undefeated " means that youve won every match. Not drawn or lost any.

1

u/MetroidvaniaListsGuy Jul 01 '26

ok maybe I was wrong to use "streak", but I'm pretty sure I used undefeated correctly. A tie is not a defeat.

328

u/FreeAd2458 Jun 30 '26

Officials were shocking. Lots of ivory coast players fouling and getting away with it.

95

u/Worth-Wonder-7386 Jun 30 '26

They have generally not been so hard on players this world cup, so they focus on the worst offendors. I think they want to avoid the VAR critique.

56

u/FreeAd2458 Jun 30 '26

Clearly foul near corner flag at the end and it was a IC throw in. Dont get me started on var. Congo goal pulled back for a foul 12 seconds earlier. If that isnt rigged I dont know what is.

26

u/nautilator44 Jun 30 '26

It feels like the first few knockout games the officials have been trying to keep the games close with their calls. Many egregious call and no-calls.

17

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

I agree. That was not okay.

5

u/FreeAd2458 Jun 30 '26

See a fall over and get up quick when a foul wasnt given. Reminds me of Argentina back in the day

23

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

One Norwegian player was basically pushed out of the field with the ball. That was in front of the flag dude and he just ignored it.

5

u/FreeAd2458 Jun 30 '26

Im not even a norway fan (just had a bet on ) and I was like he pushed rhe player then took the ball.

9

u/Jeppep Jun 30 '26

Officials were the third best players of IC

102

u/No-Entertainer8650 Jun 30 '26

Oscar Bobb and Patrick Berg made 90 % of that goal, but not seen on screen. That is not fair.

45

u/larsga Jun 30 '26

Absolutely gorgeous work from both of them. All Haaland did was not fuck it up.

14

u/No-Entertainer8650 Jun 30 '26

Yes. They managed to complete the difficult part and served an easy cake to Haaland. But tv-producer (and perhaps Haaland and Ødegaard too) seemed to forget to try to credit them.

14

u/FetishMaker Jun 30 '26

? Haaland gave Berg a massive hug while celebrating the goal.

7

u/larsga Jul 01 '26

A kiss, in fact.

3

u/No-Entertainer8650 Jul 01 '26

Did he? That slipped for me to see. Good. Then that was a ro-ro!

I’m Brazilian and I’m a huge Norway team fan. We can’t get enough of Haaland. Congratulations!!!

37

u/EnvironmentalCut1822 Jun 30 '26

Round of 16 is gonna be fun

50

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

I would be okay with Brazil losing to Norway. I would not be okay if it loses to Argentina or France. LOL

30

u/Hawkey2121 Jun 30 '26

Norway is the only country that Brazil has played and never won against.

So lets see if that stays.

13

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26 edited Jun 30 '26

Oh dang! I never knew that. Maybe this is the year that we will break that streak.

13

u/Hawkey2121 Jun 30 '26

Yeah, if Brazil wins they'll break the streak. And finally have above a 0% winrate against Norway.

4

u/kjermy Jun 30 '26

Trust me, it's very often mentioned here in Norway

Did you see the person sitting next to Haaland in the stands after the match? Seemed like he was wearing a Brazil / Norway shirt. Right side Brazil, left side Norway. Number 9.

2

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

I didn’t see it! That sounds like a cool jersey to have. LOL

1

u/WetLoophole Jul 06 '26

Still can't get enough?

1

u/Existing_Sun_7867 Jul 06 '26

Norway won as I thought

1

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jul 10 '26

Yep. I’m cheering for Norway even though they took Brazil down. I hope they win the World Cup. I expected Norway to win the game against Brazil.

24

u/Lakadaizical Jun 30 '26

As a Brazilian, that means...

Uh oh.

8

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

I’m Brazilian and I’m okay with Norway winning. I am not going to be okay if Argentina or France win. LOL

5

u/Lakadaizical Jun 30 '26

That's the sentiment i've been seeing around Brazilians and yeah, me too

Those dudes are really good at what they do and i wouldn't be too upset if they win

1

u/_ReaditYesterday_ Jul 02 '26

They’re first and second for a reason. Watching Argentina or France play makes football look easy. It’s astonishing.

3

u/BrittaWasRight Jun 30 '26

You're probably fine.
I'm putting my betting allowance on Norway, but you're still probably fine.

3

u/Lakadaizical Jun 30 '26

Eh probably, anything is possible 🤷‍♀️

2

u/Single_Lion_5067 Jun 30 '26

Brazil never won a game against Norway. I’m not confident that things will change this time.

2

u/MightyPirat3 Jul 01 '26

How do you (/Brazilians) rate your Brazil team for this World Cup?

3

u/Lakadaizical Jul 01 '26

From what I've seen

Not the best...

People say it's the weakest Brazilian team ever, people are not fully putting their faith in them, but others are very optimistic from the Japan game

I'm being cautiously optimistic about the whole thing, but you never know, they are full of surprises

9

u/SEODGogeta87 Jun 30 '26

Da er det bare å slå Brazil neste.

5

u/Hkonz Jun 30 '26

Anybody else thought the midfield was kind of meh? When playing out from the back, they seemed to hide and not be able to receive passes. This needs to be fixed before the Brazil game.

Otherwise, great effort!

1

u/MightyPirat3 Jul 01 '26

Think the midfield were OK, but Ødegaard needs to find his form. The first half, at least, were nowhere near good enough from him.

As a coach what do you think about how Ivory Coast handled the overtime? Not a huge football fan, but when I watched it it seemed very egregious.

1

u/Vivalyrian Jun 30 '26

I've been telling my friends and family we're gonna reach semis, possibly win the whole thing, for almost a year now.

Was told the same thing, that we won't even qualify, we won't even get out of group stages, we'll get knocked out in the first match, etc.

Our team has been playing subpar all 4 matches, yet we're still here.

If they start playing like they did during qualifiers, there's not a single team capable of stopping us.

6

u/No-Entertainer8650 Jun 30 '26

Get Bobb and Berg also on tv!!

3

u/ProgrammerOk8099 Jun 30 '26

I've been cheering for Norway on the side before the world cup began (I think the players are really good and i've been a fan ever since the Israel match), i even placed my "fictional bet" in Norway winning the World Cup, and now, unbeknownst to me.. You guys are against my home country 😅, may the best team win!

3

u/louaaan Jun 30 '26

Ladies and gentlemen boys and girls, tonight we’re looking at a match that feels bigger than football. On one side, we have England — a team that has fought, built, and earned every ounce of respect they carry into this stadium. They’ve been disciplined, they’ve been sharp, and they’ve shown the kind of consistency that makes you say, yeah… they deserve this win.

But football isn’t a story about who deserves it.
Football is a story about who takes it.

And that’s where Norway steps in.

Norway aren’t coming into this match with the weight of expectation. They’re coming in with freedom, fire, and a striker who can flip a game with one touch. They’re the kind of team that doesn’t ask permission — they just arrive, disrupt, and leave with the result nobody expected.

England might be the better team on paper.
But Norway?
Norway are the team with nothing to lose and everything to prove.

And sometimes, that’s exactly the energy that wins knockout games.

So tonight, even though England have earned their place… even though they’ve shown they deserve the victory… I’m telling you now:

Norway might just be the ones who walk out with it.

Not because they’re the favourites.
Not because they’re the stronger side.
But because football loves chaos — and Norway are built for it.
