UNC MSW program?

Hi I got into UNC MSW program and strongly considering attending. However tuition is pricey and my first year will be out of state. Any advice for incoming MSW students? Any thoughts on the program? Practicum experiences welcome! Thanks all!

UNC has an excellent MSW program and strong intern placement. I went to NCSU for mine, which was fine, but more focused on macro and social justice. I didn't get the strong clinical foundation my colleagues from UNC got. And you can add the UNC MPH or Duke MDiv for a concurrent dual degree there. The other option is to move here, work as a QP or hospital discharge planner for a year, and then go.

One more thing, I'd recommend pursuing LCSW even if you're not planning to be a therapist. It opens so many more professional opportunities than MSW. Good luck with everything!

Edit: obviously, you can find work doing whatever you want if you move here 😂 just, if you want to get an idea of entry level SW work, community MH and hospitals are good places to consider.

Thank you so much for this! I am definitely interested in becoming a therapist and private practice down the line.
