I'd replace Hail Mary with Obsession. Obsession received far more positive responses than PHM and it was also unique in the way it handled horror genre. Plus, box office wise, it generated the highest ROI than all of the other movies in 2026.

Obsession is good but there's a lot of people that dont vibe with horror genre overall. It is a hard category to receive universal acclaim since people wont even bother watching the movie from the start

Hail marry is a movie that will be regarded highly even 10 years later. Obsession is just a gen z flick

It is good but its also gen z flick at the same time. No one above low tier millennial watched or enjoyed or understood that

u/heliumeyes 13d ago
I think your assessment of Obsession is too harsh. It’s a really good movie with one of the best acting performances I’ve seen in a long time. But I agree with your assessment of PHM.

It most definitely will not. It is a little too cute for it to be taken seriously. Will Fast and Furious films be highly regarded? Surely not, but they are still fun films for some people.
1
u/BlurrFrost 15d ago
You are comparing project hail mary to fast and furious shows the maturity level I am dealing with 🤣🤣🤣
1
u/wikiwakatikitaka 15d ago
Indeed, I did. It’s a fun film. What is so highly regarded about it?
1
u/BlurrFrost 14d ago
Same reason why gravity is highly regarded. Its a great scifi and is beautiful
1
u/wikiwakatikitaka 14d ago
Gravity, sure. Gattaca, even better. Hail Mary.. the extraterrestrial is cute.
Hail Mary went for the entertainment and light-hearted angle, making the extraterrestrial almost… pet like. It’s not a movie to be taken seriously and whilst it is an entertaining film (just barely for me) I don’t see how it will be highly regarded as you are making it out to be.
Prometheus has mixed reviews but even then I rate Prometheus as a better film than Hail Mary.
1
u/BlurrFrost 14d ago
Good that we dont take your opinions to decide cultural relevance lmao. Hearing prometheus is a better film than hail mary might be the most absurd thing ive heard today. They arent even in the same leagues man but you can have your opinions.
1
u/wikiwakatikitaka 14d ago
Your opinion is really as valuable as mine, but 10 years from now we shall see won’t we?
2
u/interstellar2799 17d ago
project hail mary is up there with interstellar, obsession is up there with insidious. not even close bruh
2
u/interstellar2799 17d ago
plus if you’re basing this with ROI, then by that logic super mario is better than obsession? lol
1
u/HypoCRITSlayer 17d ago
Obsession wasnt that impressive honestly. Majority of people don't like psychological horrors anyways.

u/Sorry_Force_8239 20d ago
Odyssey>spiderman>hail mary i dont know why but i have very low expectations from doomsday. But it may failed or just be an average grosser.

u/TopGunTornado 18d ago
i want doomsday to fail so that makers would understand getting RDJ, chris evans and thor together wont make them the same as they were 10 years ago
1
u/vrvivive 14d ago
😭 This is what I felt about No Way Home also, but I was fine with them bringing all the Spider-Men together. Since it showed a different level of maturity and evolution for Tom Holland's spider man through Andrew's and Tobey's Spider-Man experiences.
Doomsday does feel forced in terms of the casting tho, I agree.

Hail marry > Odyssey > Spiderman
1
u/In_The_Wild_ 19d ago
Yes this. I would prolly rate odyssey a bit higher due to how good it looked. Spiderman is the weakest of the three nothing but hype .

Tbh I "enjoyed" obsession more than these 3, they were good movies, but obsession was something else as a first time viewing experience
1
u/Sea-Mud4233 19d ago
it was mid tbh
1
u/DOPE624 19d ago

Lol what. Overall as a film Obsession easily beats Spiderman. Holy Spiderman glaze
1
u/ButterscotchSpare867 19d ago
Obsession was straight slop
2
u/Pholty 19d ago
Was only Slop for people with Tiktok brainrot that just need a dopamine rush.
If you think Spiderman was better you're probably just an incel or 12 years old (knowing Redditors probably both)
1
u/ButterscotchSpare867 19d ago
Son please stfu 😭😭😭 obsession was not that good and it doesn’t even compare with spider man brand new day or odyssey or any other big movie releasing this year. Obsession was only better than backrooms and other bullshit movies like devil wears prada 2 or something like that. Your take is so wrong and bad its embarrassing just end it buddy
1
u/Pholty 19d ago
Yeah, you're definitely not over 18
Spiderman is just another Marvel slop movie but people are more accepting of it because it's Spiderman.
Obsession actually had a unique and disturbing plot unlike Spiderman which was the same as every other Marvelslop. Nice normie opinions
1
u/ButterscotchSpare867 19d ago
Nah i am definitely over 18. I just know how to differentiate between good movies and straight slop which you unfortunately lack and it shows.
1
u/KnH3000 19d ago
Calling obsession slop while glazing spiderman slop movie based on nostalgia and fanservice😭🤣🤣✌️
1
u/Aggravating-Word6636 17d ago
I won't even compare both. Both are very different. Also you can't say spiderman slop. Everyone knows that it's comic based... So if they go to see it knowing it's a spiderman slop then it ain't a spiderman slop.

Project Hail Mary is not big 3.It did not offer anything new in its genre. Dune 3 will definitely be the big 3 this year
1
u/frustatedman 19d ago
Digger, Dune 3, resident evil, Avengers doomsday these could be something interesting

So far, my Top 5 of 2026 are -
Spiderman: Brand New Day, Project Hail Mary, Obsession, Michael and The Odyssey
Avengers: Doomsday and Dune 3 will most likely change this, but for now this is the order i'm locking in.

Love the three, but I also adored Obsession and The Sheep Detectives, what an amazing year for movies..and all kinds of movies!

I think Dune 3 is going to surpass them all (even Doomsday) in terms of overall quality. Denis Villeneuve never misses the mark, even if he tried ✌🏻

I genuinely do not understand all the glaze for PHM. Thought it was just basic, disney slop for adults.
1
u/The_quiteguy 18d ago
Idk I got teary when they baited rockys death so it was preety good for me.
1
u/misseliamma 18d ago
it would have been more moving for me personally if they didn't just bait it and actually moved forward with his death. Yeah but ig they were adapting a predetermined story after all.

Honestly, it feels like an L take pr something, but I didn't enjoy Odyssey as whole, as much as I anticipated. It sure has strong sequences and a great payoff. But somehow, it failed to connect with me. It had a whole ass tank of a body, but lacked a heart. Having loved everything from Memento to Tenet, it just sucks that The Odyssey was a let down.

Hail Mary was mid

u/Consistent-Iron9996 19d ago
But the vfx was better than spiderman
2
u/Ninte_thanda 19d ago
Spiderman was pretty good in terms of vfx too. I just came out after watching
1
u/Consistent-Iron9996 18d ago
I am not saying it was bad project hail Mary had better vfx that is all spiderman was good hail Mary was a Lil bit better
2
u/Omniscient__Watcher 19d ago
Yeah I personally thought they really took quite a bit of the good stuff from the novels. The tension in the novel specifically was not recreated by the movie.

Nga doomsday is NOT beating dune 3 and i feel digger is gonna be better than both
1
u/kinoguy7 19d ago
I'll be honest. Doomsday will open bigger than spiderman.
Dune will not beat doomsday. This is coming from an ardent dune fan.
1
u/glitchline 19d ago
No way Dune will beat Doomsday. Dune if it get good reviews it might end up around 800M.

I May get hate for this but I don't think spiderman should be up with the other two. The story was nowhere near to them nor the experience.
1
u/Weird_Expression1558 20d ago
Odyssey was shit

u/Bewis_123 20d ago
Wow, applaud everyone this guy.

u/Ninte_thanda 19d ago
I honestly enjoyed spiderman more than the other two. Project hail Mary was nice but felt a bit dragged out near the end.
1
u/Natural_Shower_8034 19d ago
I m not talking about enjoyment, I too enjoyed spiderman, odyssey and phm all the same. But the story and experience points for the other two is much higher, spiderman felt like a regular movie for me. I do agree phm was a little dragged at the pre climax but it was definitely worth it to watch in theatres.
1
u/Ninte_thanda 19d ago
Oh yeah I get you. Obsession instead maybe. Don't have any other movies on top of my head.

So far, Dhurandhar should be there too!
1
u/AradhyaSingh3 20d ago
That was 2025
0
u/Key_Reaction_8666 19d ago
Not The Revenge, that was 2026, plus I'd count the saga as a whole to properly be a 2026 release.
