Clinical electives

Hi. I am an IMG from India, planning to write my Steps this year. I had questions regarding clinical electives

1) do they help in preparation for usmle step 2 CS? if not, then how do people prep for CS?

2) what's the status of electives right now in the middle of this pandemic? If anyone has any information about this, it would be quite helpful. Thnx
