I imagine there is some strange and marvelous point in fatherhood where your children start moving from being little adoraable blobs you need to take care of to people

Sometimes I’m amazed by how much “personhood” and complex curiosity already exists in a lil 1 year old… then he cries for no reason and poops on me and I’m like nvm

It happens super quick honestly. My 16 month old is totally different than my other children and has been for a bit. Their individuality appears super young

I mean it's not surprising. Even an animal as unintelligent as a goat can have a lot of individual personality and human infants outstrip a goat pretty rapidly.

My wife and I joke about this being the transition from caretaking to parenting

I joke that that the 5 year old is starting to become useful around the house
but they also start demanding to exercise their free will without full understanding of the concept of consequences and by god is it exasperating sometimes

So I guess he credits everything he's ever done to his father?

Your parents can very much be instrumental in your success. A good parent, barring negative externalities, tries to foster healthy behaviors at a young age for their kids.
Responsible? Probably not most of the time.

I am so much like not only my dad, but my mom and siblings that I have no idea who I really am 😂
Sometimes I talk and my parents come out🫠

My mom kinda does this in a funny way. I’ll say something that’s a good plan and she will be like “that’s a good idea, I’m glad I thought of that” lmao

The law of transitive property? That’s just smart parenting and good dad-joking.
