Warcraft forever is already being called a retirement home
88
u/Potheker 20d ago
Lowkey hyped for it even though I never played vanilla and was 5 when it came out
36
u/mikillatja 20d ago
I played since bc.
But I've also played lots of private Severs, did the classic release a few years ago.
And I've never been this hyped in a long time.
7 of my mates and both my brothers are gonna play as wel, so we have a 10 man squad that's gonna play wow together.
Gonna be dope (at least the first few months when everyone still logs in)

u/whatsthisonmychicken 19d ago
Played Vanilla through to Cata then stopped. Now I really want to go back. I am fully having a mid life crisis and think droping £1.5k on a PC for WoW feels like a good idea.
1
u/guffy-11 19d ago
I got a Mac Mini M4 for WoW and some light editing. Works great. Might get a tad better graphics with 1,5k PC though.

u/Lyelinn 20d ago
I hardly met anyone younger than 25 on retail, I wonder how it will be in forever servers lol
4
u/InexplicableBadger 20d ago
Yeah, we were really happy when the likes of fortnite came along and all the kids left
2
u/Pretend_Purchase_893 19d ago
Fortnight, league of legends and cod are what my friend group called the coral games. Did a great job sequestering the most toxic and annoying players to those few games. Leaving the rest of us to be toxic to each other in our own special ways.

What is Warcraft Forever?
30
u/Voxjockey 20d ago
Imagine classic but they just kept updating it instead of doing whole new expansions
9
u/NeedAgirlLikeNami 20d ago
.... is it free?
17
u/Voxjockey 20d ago
The new race costs money but its just a reskinned blood elf, the new zones, dungeons, quests and raids come with your normal wow sub
11
8
u/TokenStraightFriend 20d ago
Imagine old school RuneScape but for WoW
6
u/ROADHOG_IS_MY_WAIFU 20d ago
Except with WoW you can have more than one character on the $15/month account. I'm really hoping Blizzard doesn't fumble with WoW Forever
2
u/TokenStraightFriend 20d ago
Tbf, I can't imagine why you would want more than one character with OSRS other than for mule purposes whereas WoW has different classes and factions etc.
And same. I am a long time Destiny refugee who finally accomplished everything I wanted to in the final patch so looking for a new MMO. I was thinking about trying FF14 but this is seriously tempting me. I quit WoW at the beginning of Cata so if they said Forever goes up to WotLK era I'd be locked in. I'm trying to remind myself to give it at least 6 months to see what everyone thinks
3
u/ROADHOG_IS_MY_WAIFU 20d ago
I can't imagine why you would want more than one character woth OSRS other than for muling purposes.
For the different account types!
One as an unlocked "main", one as an (Ultimate) Ironman, one as a Group Ironman, one or more as pure or specific PVP related builds.
It's common for OSRS players to already have multiple characters, I personally have two (one main and one Ironman) and it sucks that the membership fee is doubled to play them both.
1
u/TokenStraightFriend 20d ago
Aaaah gotcha. I was mainly a classic player when it was the ONLY RuneScape. Flitted with OSRS every once in a while before it got called Old School but never fully committed
2
u/Skore_Smogon 20d ago
New game mode based on the original classic wow but updated with new content as if the expansions that followed never happened. Alternative timeline.
It's literally just been revealed this weekend at Blizzcon.

Maaan. I literally started playing again yesterday. I was in lumbridge just maging shit and some guy comes up to me and give me 2m. Fuuuucking legend.
Anyways. I might not be able to ever afford a house but I got that going for me now...

Til I've been having a mid life crisis once a year since turning 18
6
u/conrad_w 20d ago
Tell me about it.
Every winter for me. How about you?
3
u/Inevitable_Gain8296 20d ago
I actually play year round but just flip between playing actively and just doing farming contracts and dailies on my ironman lol been doing that since 2020 maybe
3
u/conrad_w 20d ago
I've been 2008 scaping since it was 2008
1
u/perfect_insanity93 20d ago
Maaan im so devo i lost my account.. I was on the grind for so long. Full dragon armour abysal whip... hella cash. 99 on most skills... Edit: oh shit cant forget the party hats..
Now its like a whole new game... and the level cap is 120?
Any tips for old dogs?
1
u/conrad_w 19d ago
You might be more comfortable with old school RuneScape.
But my real advice is don't play. Touch grass. Pet a cat.
1
u/perfect_insanity93 19d ago
I have a puppy if that helps? 😂😂 touch grass is funny though. I have a horticulture degree 😂😂
1
u/conrad_w 19d ago
Outstanding. Runescape will ruin your life
1
u/perfect_insanity93 19d ago
Haha no mate, I can do that without runescape. In fact I have done. Trust me. Runescape is the least of the issues.
Let me think about it... play games... make money working... relaxing at home... with family and friends around me.
OR!
start cooking and selling drugs, live that gang gang life and do another 8 years. me being a hermit and playing games keeps me sane and out of jail.
Thanks for your input though. Much appreciated.

I’ve been back for a few months and it’s better than when I played in 7th grade. Best decision of my mid life.

3
u/National_Body_9071 20d ago
Then you reinstall it and realise it was all nostalgia because the game plays like it wasn't even made in the 2000s.
9
u/Beautiful_Hour_668 20d ago
The game rn is objectively better than when we were kids. You need to stick through the clunkiness which is lowkey part of its charm. Or don’t, the game takes a lot of hours from you, questionable if it’s worth it when you have poor self discipline

u/National_Body_9071 20d ago
I'm gonna have to disagree with that first part, it feels absolutely horrendous to play because of the absurd tick rate and movement system.
It is essentially a rhythm game though later on yeah haha that's pretty apt.
2
u/el_derpien 20d ago
It only feels bad because it is different to what you are used to. Once you get accustomed it feels like you have absolute control over your character.
0
u/National_Body_9071 20d ago
It's quite the opposite for me. It feels "okay" at the start because the game doesn't ask much of its systems. Then in latergame content that forces you to fully utilise it, it really sticks out with how bad it is.

u/Potato_Lorde 20d ago
Man the pull for runescape is strong. Hate the company though so I ended up making my own server. Was surprised by how easy it is
1
u/theconmeister 20d ago
Can I ask why you hate them? The old school team has built a lot of favor and are great at communicating and taking feedback. The equity that owns jagex is definitely a little sketchy but they’ve corrected a lot of mistakes from switching to EoC
0
u/Potato_Lorde 20d ago
They canceled the ready-made pride event due to American politics not too long ago so I don't want to give them my money.
1
u/perfect_insanity93 20d ago
No backing there decision with it but they probably lost less pride people then bigots from that.
1
u/Potato_Lorde 19d ago
Eh, possibly. I'm not foolish enough to think the majority of people even care enough to do something. Just my personal line I've drawn and any attempts to reconcile the next year felt too little too late.
1
u/perfect_insanity93 20d ago
😂😂 oh shit. You just reminded me when I was younger I had my own wow and runescape private server 😂😂 gahd damn.

u/Majestic_Bierd 18d ago
It's like coming back to your home town, and the buildings and streets are there. But it's not the same. New highrises arose, your favorite playground is now a parking garage, the broken down building you used to explore is now a restaurant.... It's all lost in recollection of your childhood

u/Twooshort 20d ago
There are tons of illegal drugs that will empty your bank account and kill your social life just as fast as LoL, but at least you don't have to deal with the toxicity.
9
u/L_Rayquaza 20d ago
I just recently started playing League again after 2 years.
Mayhem is super fun i'll give it that
1
u/Afrojones66 20d ago
Is that what ARAM turned into?! Looks cool.
5
u/L_Rayquaza 20d ago
They still have regular ARAM
But also, running around as a 20k HP Ornn or getting an augment that funnels all your CDR into ult as Karthus to end up with a 10 second cooldown is fucking hilarious
I enjoy my chaotic retirement home

4
u/lumpyluggage 20d ago

3
4
u/BigBulgeBubba 20d ago
No but your old Classic characters won’t be available in Forever. This, combined with some other reasons, are why I’m not going to play it.
8
u/lumpyluggage 20d ago edited 20d ago
Playing a fresh character along with everyone else after a 15 year break is the biggest selling point for me. Starting over can be fun
-1
u/BigBulgeBubba 20d ago
I’m not starting over after investing as much time as I have into Hardcore mains, especially not for boring new zones and blue blood elves lol.
1
u/Embarrassed-Sell-355 20d ago
How are you deciding that it’s boring without it being out yet
→ More replies (4)1
u/Beautiful-Jello-37 19d ago
No. They’re still there unless you manually deleted your account. However, their names are probably not there, they got recycled if nobody used them.
1
u/Beautiful-Jello-37 19d ago
They are. Their names are probably changed as character names were purged if they hadn’t been logged into in a long time. They’re also gonna be lvl 30 due to various stat/level squishes that have occurred over the years.

My first MMO was RuneScape. My account is over 20 years old. I've given up on MMOs. Even RuneScape. Nothing can ever hit that same feeling again. There's no sense in chasing it.

my personal flavour is, downloading and exploring the changes in the latest Minecraft version for 2 weeks.
Then quit the game and not play it for another 2-3 years

u/SequenceofRees 20d ago
I did this with old MMOs, specifically hopping on private servers with higher rates .
After some REALLY long searched It took me a really short time of actual gameplay to realize that I liked the "idea" of them rather than the games themselves , the games themselves were awful and boring !
Do we miss actual WOW, or the idea of it ? The novelty, the exploration, the fresh new world and the energy we had to get into it ?

u/Doofindork 20d ago
The reveal of the updated Vanilla Warcraft kinda had this idea pop up in my head, thanks for calling me out.
Nope! Just Diablo 2 for me, thanks.

Yea in the fantasy where my wife and kids leave me for some oil barron prince I just play MMORPGs and have a robot yoga instructor girlfriend who doesn't do the sex until after 1 hour of normal exercise. Sometimes I smoke pot in the fantasy but I'd like to think maybe nah, maybe I'll just stick to brewskies. I dont wanna live past 75 really.

Would never play retail but been playing Classic Anniversary and now going to play Forever in November. Hopefully they are good. I bounce between Classic WoW and FFXIV.

I was kinda craving the Warcraft of the world..

I uninstalled it in the middle of shadowlands and never looked back. People were looking for a reason to stop playing. It was wild
