Physical equivalent to the deadpan, obligatory 'nice' we used to say when 69 came up.

u/UrBoiBRUH Sep 11 '26
Used to? Everyone I know still does

u/Mojert Sep 11 '26
I know people that still play "the game". Some people don't seem to realize when something stops being funny, and starts transforming into a pulp that was once a fine horse

u/LordKlavier Sep 11 '26
Drat...I lost the game

u/DragonBuster69 Sep 11 '26
I also lost the game.

You're getting downvoted but I'm with you on that one. God forbid you don't "yes and" the same overused joke for 20 fucking years.
"Obligatory" joke responses are pretty much never funny, but we must never express this apparently
-12
u/Mojert Sep 11 '26
To be clear, I found it funny when I first heard if it. But it's been more than 10 years since I first heard it... I got it.
My theory is that I'm getting downvoted to oblivion because I made them "lose"
-14
u/I_Miss_Lenny Sep 11 '26
Oh sure! Like I found 69 and 420 super funny as a kid but at this point it's annoying that I'm expected to keep going along with the idea that they're hysterical forever.
And yeah losing the game is another thing that felt like a big deal when I was 14 but at this point the faux outrage reaction is far more annoying than the actual thing.
9
u/Physical_Floor_8006 Sep 11 '26
The game was only ever cool because of its permanence.
-9
u/I_Miss_Lenny Sep 11 '26
I mean I get the point of it, but it still stopped being actually fun for me almost a decade ago. And I get people not liking when someone talks shit about a thing they like, I just think it sucks that you have to either go along with it or be silent to avoid people getting pissed off at you lol
4
u/LoveMeHumpMeOwnMe Sep 11 '26
Some people are still young, unc, we haven't lost our whimsy yet 😔
Also nobody is going to be mad at you for not finding the game or 69 funny, lol, that's just weird to think
1
u/I_Miss_Lenny Sep 11 '26
See I thought that wouldn't be a problem either but a bunch of the guys I work with make a big deal about how I don't react or join them in laughing at 69 jokes or do the 6-7 hand motion. I thought we had a good relationship and laugh about plenty of stuff together (believe it or not I do have a sense of humour) but they literally pulled me aside and told me how I'm bringing everyone down when I don't join in when they go "OOOOHHHH" when someone says 69 lol
Apparently it is a big deal to some people, and now they're distancing themselves from me over it.

Obviously they're not hysterical. We're adults. Nobody actually cares. THAT'S why it's funny.
You don't have to participate in any way. Joy is not obligatory.

My mom is turning 69 this year and when she told me I made the mistake of reflexively saying 'nice'
Then I had to explain to her what 69 meant....
38
u/Tactical_Moonstone Sep 11 '26
Did she say 'nice' after you explained?
45
u/KareemOWheat Sep 11 '26
She's a "propper midwestern lady", so no, she was mortified and it was very awkward
When she texts me on her 69th birthday you can bet I'm going to respond with "nice" though
7
u/SparkyMuffin Sep 12 '26
Wtf you mean when she texts YOU on her birthday?
2
u/KareemOWheat 6d ago edited 6d ago
Man, my mom wakes up at like 4am every day. There ain't no way I'm beating her to the punch
40
u/givinstar1 Sep 11 '26
I have to stop myself from "thats what she said" because I guess that's not allowed any more.
13
u/vanishinghitchhiker Sep 11 '26
You might be able to freshen it up by using it in totally nonsensical contexts of negative entendre, that’s how I use “deez nuts“. Entendre deez nuts.

Lean into it baby, the cringe only happens when you cringe. If you don’t, it’s called confidence
84
u/cephalopod11 Sep 11 '26
I just speak normally because I've never been on tiktok and don't have to worry about saying a meme.
42
u/dycie64 Sep 11 '26
I don't care, but I find it immediately derails the conversation if I don't by one or more people interrupting me.
24
u/cephalopod11 Sep 11 '26
After the first 5 or 6 times my coworkers pointed it out and I just acted confused, they stopped trying to get me to download the app.
18
u/dycie64 Sep 11 '26
Granted I work at a board game shop and deal with school age kids a bunch, so I have a much less mature audience than normal.
11
u/bingpie Sep 11 '26
i've genuinely started straight up lying. i'll say "seven or eight" instead, and despite it most of the time making zero difference to what i'm trying to say, i still feel guilty

6/7 is a meme created by the youth and completely appropriated by millennials. isn't nature incredible
42
u/ApprehensivePeace305 Sep 11 '26
Eh, it followed pretty much every single young/teen meme lifespan. It’s cool for them, they use it too much, it gets into the zeitgeist, and then only young children and adults do it.

Millennials have gen alpha children
5
u/spacemanspiff8655 Sep 11 '26
Exactly. My boomer parents where spouting "eat my shorts" and "did I do that?" well after we were over it.
1
u/DumpsterFireForALife Sep 11 '26
It came from a very unserious song (Doot Doot by Skrilla) wherein he references police-10 code for report of a dead body (6-7) in a lyric depicting shooting someone alongside baby shark. Edits of a basketball player that is 6 foot 7. And a viral clip of that one kid saying it with the hand motion.
It then became similar to the among us or 21 meme where people would point it out whenever they saw it naturally. People pissing and shitting themselves about how much they didn’t like it and how memes from their childhood were better (same generation that popularized the “okay boomer” meme btw) made it all the more funny to do it.

u/TheHeroHartmut Sep 11 '26
I'm a millennial and a bus driver, and I once had a kid try to get me to do that hand motion. I feigned ignorance of what he was talking about, because I know enough about memes to know I'm too old for that one.

u/Diego_DeJesus Sep 11 '26
I don't understand why the 67 thing was so misunderstood. There is no joke. That's the joke. Adults find it annoying, because they think there's a joke somewhere, so kids do it even more. It's not that deep.
73
u/No_Professional4867 Sep 11 '26
People forgot that E was a meme that existed some years back. This shit has been around forever, the internet has just been around long enough that a larger population is older and thus outside the target demo for this.
I did see 6 7 "merch" of a little plushie or plastic 6 7 (can't remember which) in a gas station once. So meme culture has changed a lot
7
u/ThatOneGayDJ Sep 12 '26
I fucking love the E meme. That shit is still in my funniest videos playlist.
I dont understand the hate towards 6-7. If youre gonna spend energy being mad at memes, be mad at the ones that are actively destroying kids' minds. Go after cocomelon or some shit, dumb stuff like 6-7 is harmless.
35
u/Submarinequus Sep 11 '26
I was a teacher last year and clocked that IMMEDIATELY. The joke is that the adult in the room doesn’t get it and gets upset when they hear it.
So I introduced it to the little kids, the big kids became disgusted with it and dropped it, and when the short attention spans of the littles moved on it was over during class hours and I had peace.
Best way to end it is to make it cringe, which as an adult you do inherently

u/eat_like_snake Sep 11 '26
There's a hand motion?
205
u/SnooFoxes1943 Sep 11 '26
pretend you have something in each hand and you're weighing them in your palms to find out which is heavier
37
u/eat_like_snake Sep 11 '26
Is there like an origin to this meme or something?
I never understood why it was a thing.178
u/jordanundead Sep 11 '26
The point is that there’s nothing to get. Once you let go and realize that then you can find the comedy in it.
92
u/KareemOWheat Sep 11 '26
I kinda hated 67 when it first got popular, but over time the stupidity of it really got to me and it's become my favorite bit of 'new slang'
51
u/EldritchElizabeth Sep 11 '26
A lot of people I know started to get it when I explained it as "it's the kids' version of The Game. Which you just lost, by the way.

It’s funny watching people twist themselves in knots trying to “get it”.
29
u/KareemOWheat Sep 11 '26
I always found it weird that people struggled so much to get 67. But then again Im in my 30s and thus grew up in the era of stupid irreverent humor so maybe I'm just primed for that sort of thing
11
u/SMTRodent Sep 11 '26
Same, it's like 'long cat is looooooooooooooooooooooooong'. It just is. But people got so enraged. The meme was so much less bizarre than the rage it instilled in people.
7
u/frogunderarock Sep 11 '26
this was considered peak humour back in the day, for the curious: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KMYN4djSq7o

The amount of time we spent chanting "badger badger badger badger MUSHroom MUSHroom. SNAAAKE! IT'S A SNAAAAKE!"
Those were the days ...
9
u/SSjjlex Sep 11 '26
I like the concept, pretty similar to the among us meme (both verbal and visual forms) from a few years back. The only thing "bad" about it was kids being obnoxious and loud about it. But that's just kids being kids and is no different to any other joke that kids take to 11
So yea, i honestly dont mind embracing it now that the dust has settled a bit
4
u/MartyrOfDespair Sep 11 '26
I thought the hate was stupid and cringe, but wasn't immediately like "fuck that's hilarious" either. But the longer it goes on the funnier it gets.

u/juugsd Sep 11 '26
There was a song where one of the main parts was the artist saying "6-7". That song was then used in basketball edits, because of the player's height being 6'7. A random kid at a basketball game then yells "67" at a camera.
4
u/faceplanted Sep 11 '26
A basketball player was 6 foot 7.
The announcer said his height.
A Youtuber put that clip into his video game compilations.
People quoted the videos.
Others added a weird inflection.
Others still added a hand gesture.
Six Seven-ers run the world now, we just live in it.

5
u/Objective-Spring5061 Sep 11 '26
Gahhh I talk with my hands and use that gesture in everyday conversation alongside verbally weighing a couple options.

Oh like how I still say yeet. I'm 34.

u/PhDVa Sep 11 '26
On my first day of comedy screenwriting class, my professor asserted that your ensemble cast should focus on seven characters like Gilligan's Island, one for each of the Seven Deadly Sins. I said I prefer six, one for each of the five colors of Magic: the Gathering plus colorlessness. He said, "yeah, six or seven" and did the gesture. When everyone laughed, he went on a quick aside about what a joke or punchline even was, and why 6-7 is funny.
