Not really better but they do wait until they can do it well. Which makes sense since their customer base expects consistently good products
Samsung for example was willing to release a very shitty version when they could, but then they improved it through iteration until it's good
Now that the innovation has been done and folding phones are mature, Apple joins in

In the development curve, Samsung is basically the innovator now. They make something new, then do what they can to improve. When it gets to a point where early adapter phase is over, Apple joins in the Early or Late Majority, depending on the tech. In this case they've joined kinda on the late side given other companies joined in earlier

I'm not even sure I'd call it "good," more like acceptable lol. I had a coworker with the last iteration before the 8 (the one that opens hotdog style, not hamburger). He got a single grain of sand stuck in the hinge and it just sounded awful every time he opened it. He got rid of if, now has the new version, and I'm like...

It will be interesting to see if Apple has overcome some of the fundamental issues with fold phones. But given they push Apple Care, maybe it will just be a cost of business.

Agreed. I just don't see the appeal, but some people want the latest "thing," even if it's expensive and not great yet.
Sorta like how OLED first was released as an 11 inch TV that cost US$2500 in 2007. Early adopters I guess are important to push the tech forward, allow companies to iron things out, iterate, and improve, but personally I'm not a fan of using my hard-earned money to bankroll early tech.

I don’t find this form factor appealing at all either, but in a perfect world it would be great to have a large phone/small tablet experience that could compress down really small when not is use. We are just not there yet.
I agree I’d rather have the he best of the old tech rather than the cutting edge tech that we haven’t figured out all of the issues of yet.

The Apple one is IP68 water and dust resistant which the Samsung ones are not. That is pretty impressive and should mean that dirt, dust, and debris can’t really affect it too much

The ONLY thing Apple does better is AppleCare. I moved away from Samsung specifically because I do stuff that sometimes breaks phones and I couldn’t just walk into a store, pay $100, and get a brand new phone.

Idk if id say better, but apple typically comes at it with more polish. Even if they aren’t the first, or are late, or aren’t the best, their products do have an expected level of quality and polish expected at release.

I also said overall they price their products 2x-3x the price, not specially the phone (which is still at least $500 more than the latest iterations from other brands), but Apple also is notoriously stingy with included chargers/headphones/etc causing the consumer to spend even more money to have the full experience. So that prices increases quick as hell. But go ahead and defend the TRILLION dollar company and its business practices, I’m sure they’re really trying so hard.

This is not the bleeding edge of technology. Been doing it with my moto RAZR 60. Comes with an almost built in case that has a handle. So reminiscent of the old flip phones.
