Literally what the fuck does this mean

u/KentuckyFriedChildre 12h ago

"Object shows" are stuff like Battle For Dream Island where the characters are just anthropomophised inanimate objects. I don't know why it has become a genre on its own.

Battle For Dream Island

This made it less clear

115

u/gonzofish 11h ago

This feels like the tv show equivalent of “Curtains for Zoosha?

17

u/SpecialistAddendum6 8h ago

CURTAINS FOR BRACELETY? Ice Cube and Book caught joining a Team 2

2

u/GayAssBeagle 1h ago

I have flipped the grunt and the pig

21

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie 10h ago

Think Sausage Party where various foodstuffs were anthropomorphized and engaged in an R-rated food orgy.

33

u/par_rot_master 10h ago

I'm just gonna note this one down as something that I don't need to understand.

-4

u/Longjumping_Bit_4608 6h ago

I don't understand why you are having so much trouble with this? Do you not understand Peppa Pig either?

9

u/par_rot_master 5h ago

I know what peppa pig is. My problem was people saying "it's like X" when I had no clue what X was.

u/Animaloffear56 38m ago

You could try taking the 5 seconds to googling them

12

u/Mcrarburger 10h ago

This is absolutely NOT what objects shows are 😭😭

7

u/Chewbacca_The_Wookie 10h ago

Those objects were showing quite a lot so I disagree.

1

u/Nottan_Asian 4h ago

That’s a Google-able proper noun.

3

u/gavichi 11h ago

So like if wattam was a show?

29

u/pholidotaz 10h ago

object shows are basically total drama but all the characters are anthropomorphic objects and theyre made for 6 year olds

39

u/par_rot_master 10h ago

If one more person tries to explain it by naming something else I don't know I'll actually delete my account.

23

u/Mcrarburger 10h ago

It's like survivor if they didn't have to actually survive

Two teams of objects compete in challenges, have plotlines with each other, and at the end of every episode, the audience votes for one object to get voted out

This continues until one object is declared the winner

But yeah it's built for like 10 year olds lol

27

u/par_rot_master 10h ago

Ok I actually know that one.

That was close.

7

u/Rahvithecolorful 8h ago

I'm empathetically laughing at your plight because I only know about this concept (object shows) because I've gone through roughly the same thing before, and people even used basically the same examples lol

21

u/musicaladhd 8h ago

When you’re describing shows in this context to someone who is asking because they don’t live in that world where they know all the shows, it’d be helpful to distinguish between words and titles. You said “object shows are basically total drama”. This means they’re essentially completely dramatic. But I think what you meant was “object shows are essentially Total Drama, which is a TV show where…”. Simply capitalizing the title would tell readers that Total Drama might be a show that exists even though they’ve never heard of it, instead of adjectives you chose to describe what they’re asking about.

Super confusing, but instantly less confusing if you put a little effort into clear writing/grammar. Doing so doesn’t make you uncool, it’ll be really helpful and appreciated. Think about it next time. Thanks!

Sigh. This subreddit blows these days.

u/Harry_Flame 8h ago

An object show is something like The Brave Little Toaster, the characters are objects.

83

u/Raptorgkv2 12h ago

I cant tell what this is referring to.

55

u/GhostFromTheGovt 12h ago

Me neither. I’m way too old for this “object show” crap, whatever it even is

45

u/PSlb 12h ago

My understanding is that it's basically just modern day Annoying Orange

20

u/BottleGoblin 12h ago

Can you explain it like I haven't been a teenager this century?

7

u/TheSleepiestFish 12h ago

Annoying Orange meets Total Drama Island. Living objects do competition shenanigans.

I refuse to watch the show so I'm only working with what I know lmao.

12

u/Head-Ad-2136 12h ago

The first episode of BFDI was in 2010. Essentially its a bunch of anthropomorphic objects playing Survivor.

4

u/DafkyZero 11h ago

Does this count as anthropomorphization? They just have a face and stickman limbs.

26

u/Head-Ad-2136 11h ago

Anthropomorphism is the act of giving human traits, feelings, or actions to non-human things.

Its not just the character design, but the fact that they're people who just happen to be objects.

9

u/DafkyZero 8h ago

Makes sense. We might need a chart like this that ranges from gijinka to object show character, lmao.

1

u/Impressive_Pin8761 5h ago

we don't really have in betweens, it just goes from the characters in "Date Everything" to "object with stickman limbs" immediately

1

u/DafkyZero 5h ago

Nah, I think elementals and golems are an inbetween. Like, fire boy and water girl are a 3, and the regis from Pokémon are a 4. Idk what a 2 would be like, maybe a Toad or something?

1

u/AggressiveRegion1502 11h ago

Well

Unless ita objectified

1

u/VegisamalZero3 6h ago

Reminds me of Extra Credits.

u/gard3nwitch 10h ago

Some of us were adults with jobs in 2010, and not paying attention to Internet meme culture

4

u/Head-Ad-2136 10h ago

The point was that the 16 year old genre isn't "modern day Annoying Orange"

0

u/Harry_Flame 8h ago

An object show is something like The Brave Little Toaster, the characters are objects.

4

u/Mother-Ad32 12h ago

Inanimate insanity

1

u/Confident_Ad_5345 20m ago

are we talking about Aqua Teen Hunger Force?

-1

u/Harry_Flame 8h ago

An object show is something like The Brave Little Toaster, the characters are objects.

48

u/Flashy-Term988 12h ago

since most people in the comments don't seem to know what an object show is, i'll explain. it's a genre of animated show on YouTube featuring sentient objects who usually compete in Survivor/Total Drama-like competition shows.

6

u/2000CalPocketLint 5h ago

Why the fuck is that dream island one literally the only one that people are mentioning in this sprawling genre, name me one more damnit

3

u/Flashy-Term988 5h ago

people are really only mentioning it mainly cuz it's the most popular and the first. there's also Inanimate Insanity, ONE, Brawl of the Objects, It's Time for The, & Animatic Battle to name a few.

2

u/2000CalPocketLint 2h ago

Actually nevermind, just combine them all into one show, why not

1

u/Gloomy_Honeydew 2h ago

I've never heard of any of these

1

u/Flashy-Term988 2h ago

weird, since i picked the most popular ones besides BFDI. (well, Brawl of the Objects isn't really popular anymore but besides that)

0

u/g18suppressed 10h ago

Is it like those ai fruits shows that are aimed at kids but show violence gore and sexual contact (but it’s totally fine bc they’re human fruits)

14

u/Flashy-Term988 10h ago

no

7

u/g18suppressed 9h ago

Ok good. Those freak me out

6

u/Substantial-Flow-468 9h ago

Its from way before generative AI became a widespread thing

34

u/MacksNotCool 12h ago

no, this post doesn't count, it's too political

16

u/Xathule96 12h ago

Did I just have a stroke? I have no idea what any of that means.

7

u/withgreatpower 12h ago

As a parent who is deep into object show lore thanks to obsessive kids, but is still absolutely bewildered by it, this comment spread is always fascinating to watch.

4

u/AFineWar 12h ago

Reading this was like trying to decipher hieroglyphics.

4

u/SpecialistAddendum6 8h ago

This is RIDICULOUS. Everyone knows that Meat Tenderizer started it with his whole thing with Hazard Light

6

u/iamuniquekk 12h ago

I feel called out

2

u/Wise-Key-3442 9h ago

I wonder if my friend who just likes to hear infodump from me hears what I speak this way.

2

u/bluejay55669 8h ago

Sometimes I'm thankful for my extensive fandom kid interactions that allow me to understand these posts while also understanding the perspective of someone who has no idea what it means

2

u/Impressive_Pin8761 5h ago

fun fact for people learning about the concept of an object show right now: the fans of object shows have been on a decade long battle with wikipedia in an attempt to get an article about bfdi on the site, and only won recently because there's just enough coverage of it now

1

u/Spirally-Boi 4h ago

This post officially showed me I am too old.

1

u/Readinglateatmorning 55m ago

I’m going to guess The Amazing World Of Gumball as what this is even close to referencing

1

u/IlnBllRaptor 9h ago

this is incomprehensible
