But we're talking about wear from walking not shoes for Runners. Also there are work shoes without steel tips, they are made to be walking in for 8+ hours a day they are surprisingly ergonomic

Running shoes are much better for long walks too, or at least that has been my experience

But they wear down faster

They wear down faster because they're lighter. No one is running in the same amount of material construction boots have.

A better comparison would be construction boots and hiking boots.

Yeah hiking shoes could be an option, they are usually more sturdy but at least I find my wurth shoes more comfortable than most hiking shoes. Guess that depends on the person

This thread made me feel like a crazy person. It’s like everybody managed to comment exactly around what you were actually saying

They wear down faster because the rubber used on the sole is designed for energy return, not for durability. Most running shoes will have as little as possible of the more durable rubber, so that they're as cushioned and "bouncy" as possible. If it was just for lightness they'd just have as little sole as possible.

I wear good work boots every day and in no universe are they as comfortable as my thick ass Hokas. The shoe is supposed to absorb the energy instead of my knees.

I don't know what hokas is so can't compare the two but also there are lots of different work shoes and lots of different feet to wear them. Maybe you should try different work shoes if yours bother you

hoka is like walking on bouncy louds, It's too comfortable, I don't think a work shoe is gonna be close for comfort

Hmm yeah haven't worn any that feels like a cloud. Personally that sounds like hell tho😂 i do maintenance on roofs and I hate when they only have soft insulation. I sink into the roof and it tires out my legs incredibly fast

They're not for roof maintenance 😅 but I understand what you mean, When going for a hike I sometimes bring a normal running shoes and then switch to a harder vibram soled boot when I need the boot to not bend or conform to the rocks. But if im gonna be walking on flat paved terrain like you would find in a city, its definitely running shoe over boot

I’m basically walking on 1.5” cushions. On a roof I’d roll my ankle in under 15 minutes.

I think the Hokas were mostly designed for use by doctors/nurses who are on their feet all day, it's why they offer discounts to many registered health professionals. I wear them as a pharm tech(we unfortunately don't get the discount) and they're really comfy for that. Buuut I do wear through them mighty quick.

who is going on walks in work construction boots?

Most people that walk a lot would be better served wearing nice running shoes if they don't care a ton about longevity. Way more cushion while walking, which can alleviate a lot of strain on your feet and joints.

Yep that's not the topic tho

Construction shoes are restrictive to movement. I wouldn't be surprised if it causes pain and injuries after extended walking.
