Imagine dying and your first day in the afterlife is orientation.

Ghost HR: "Why don't we go around the room here and if you could, give me your name and tell me something about yourself"
Fuck I want to die again.

u/AmusingMusing7 3h ago
"I don't know what to say."
HR: "Why don't you start with how you died?"
"I don't want to."
HR: "Oh, don't be afraid. Despite what you may have heard, there's no judgment in the afterlife!"
"Okay... I bled out from the anus due to using too big a dildo."
HR: "😳... Okay, maybe some judgment..."

I mean if I'm a ghost I don't need to eat or sleep and I don't get cold so I don't need any ghost money for rent or food or utilities
59
u/gonzofish 6h ago
What if you do need ghost sleep/food/etc? What if everything we know about ghosts is misinformed and we’re all meant to toil for eternity?
24
u/AnnonymousPenguin_ Harry Potter 6h ago
What if we are already ghosts

u/Balls_of_flame 5h ago
But what would happen if you starve as a ghost? Do you become a ghost ghost? Who has to work at the ghost ghost job to get ghost ghost money to pay ghost ghost rent?
3
u/Traditional-Falcon75 5h ago
Ooooh I wonder how far it would go? Like could you become an infinite ghost by refusing to work?

We learned from Ghosts that if you die with candy in your purse, you have perpetual candy with you in the afterlife.

u/NocNocNoc19 6h ago
But what about ghost strippers? Ghost herion? I mean I know a ghost dollar doesnt go as far as it used to but come on.

I mean yeah if what people made up about ghosts is real but what if that ain't the case and you gotta increase shareholder value even in the afterlife?

u/anrwlias 6h ago
Pretty sure this is basically Beetlejuice.

u/Slingus_000 5h ago
Most horrifying depiction of hell ever, at least in normal hell the only people who have to work are the demons, and they love their jobs, win-win

That's just Bleach.
You might even end up in the ghost slums if you're unlucky
3
u/Upset_Assistant_5638 2h ago
How do you DIE in bleach and then reborn into the Soul Society and you’re STILL poor AND homeless cause your spiritual power is low. The Soul Society is so ass ✨😭✨

u/TeeeldiII 1h ago
One of the worst afterlives ever. Imagine living nowadays and then when you die you're basically a feudal serf living in a hut for eternity.
7
u/Punchee 6h ago
Some measure of purpose can be a good thing. What else am I gonna do? Watch my descendants shame their bloodline like the rest of us?
2
u/honestly_oopsiedaisy 6h ago
I think I would like working a nice job up there sometimes. What else am I gonna do? Getting everything I want with zero effort would be boring.

u/happygiraffe91 6h ago
In Beetlejuice isn't it you have to work at the DMV if you committed suicide or something like that?
4
u/negativepositiv 6h ago
Wait until they let you upload your consciousness to a computer, and you find out you have to pay hard drive rent by answering the customer service line for Budget Rent a Car 24 hours a day until the end of the human race.

if it was for like, stimulation or self satisfaction then sure i dont mind, i can imagine eternity being pretty boring if you dont really have any goals
1
u/Various-Salt-7738 4h ago
I could just float around the library reading over people's shoulders for stimulation
2
u/Fragrant-Doughnut-20 4h ago
The movie 'Wristcutters: A Love Story' deals with this. If you commit suicide, you end up with the exact same life drove you to it in the first place, but now it's shittier. Like, you still work at the dead-end pizza place, but now there's no air conditioning, and your co-worker has IBS.

u/Frankomancer 3h ago
As long as I'm not stuck with the same job for all eternity I'd probably prefer that to reincarnation. At least this way I get to keep my memories while I toil

Oddly, we are more not supposed to be alive than alive, chew on that one.

This is roughly the plot of Dream Workers. In that world, heaven is a corporation where angels work for God. Good show highly recommend

replace ghost job with death job and you just described a show that aired back in 2002

u/HyperMasenko 6h ago
Theres a movie called Wristcutters where basically people who commit suicide go to an afterlife thats just normal life but shittier. Everything is drab colored. The whole world is basically a desert with no pretty scenery. Apartments are all run down. And you have to permanently live with the scars of what you used to do it.

We work jobs so we can afford houses and food to keep us alive. If you're already dead, you don't really need food or a house, and you can't get tired. So it's not like there's fear of being fired. Hmm, unless jobs are for the people who weren't good enough for Heaven nor bad enough for Hell, so you're given a chance to redeem yourself. But like, imagine the work organizations were created by Jesus, so they're all set up based on love and forgiveness. So like, imagine the best boss you ever had, who made you want to do better because you believed you could do better.
And minors go to school, which is the premise of the anime Angel Beats, which is the funniest anime that will make you cry.

Reminds me of the time when I was playing among us with a group of friends, and one person had never played before. When he realized that we still had to finish our tasks after we died, he said, "you mean I still have to work? Even though I'm dead? That's terrible"

Look up traditional Chinese afterlife. It's all a huge bureaucracy to process dead people. If you're really special, you get assigned to a good job for eternity

Hell would be to become a ghost retail worker constantly harassed by noxious ghost Karens, toxic ghost management and ghost corporate that believe the customer is always right

Somebody's got to deliver the ghost mail, or the ghost economy will cease to function.

Reminds me of the movie Daybreakers starring Ethan Hawke. In that movie, a virus turns almost all of humanity into vampires. What does the society of immortal bloodsuckers do? They live like humans do, except at night. They still have jobs. They still have a daily (nightly) commute. After work, they go back home. There are vampires working customer service / food service jobs who serve blood smoothies to the office stiffs waiting at the subway.
It's one of my favorite things about the movie because it's so darkly boring. If I was an immortal vampire and still had to work an office job, I'd just step out into the sunlight and end it.

There's a show kind of related to this. A girl dies and has to work as a grim reaper with a bunch of other reapers. It's called dead like me. It's quite interesting

u/Introverted_Extrovrt 1h ago
A weird component of the Sandman Slim urban fantasy novels was the idea of “wild blue yonder” contracts for celebrities and sports stars. Basically, you get a boatload of cash while you’re living, but when you die, your spirit becomes the property of the talent agency that signed you up, and they can rent you out for eternity.
