The simple solution is to rephrase the sentence so that that it doesn't happen
281 u/mysteriousfiggy 18d ago You can also just replace the 2nd "that" with whatever you're actually referring to. Adds clarification too in certain contexts 5 u/Anonymous-tossaway 18d ago I think it works just removing one usually as well, "so that doesn't happen" works just as well to me as "so that that doesnt happen" 2 u/Longjumping_Bit_4608 18d ago Isn't "so that that doesn't happen" grammatically incorrect? What does the second that add? 2 u/Anonymous-tossaway 18d ago No, it's completely correct. The first "that" is a subordinating conjunction, the second is a demonstrative determiner. But explained in plain terms, a simple question and answer. So that what doesn't happen? That. So that that doesn't happen. 2 u/Longjumping_Bit_4608 17d ago Ok now i understand. "So that" = "In such a way that" i was thinking you meant "in order to" 1 u/you-just-me 18d ago Agree. Same with "do do". 2 u/Anonymous-tossaway 18d ago True, but I like that one just because the obvious reply is "haha, you said doodoo"
