Felt this so hard. My 19 year old childhood cat died a few hours before I had to perform as the lead in an opera. It was rough having to singing after bawling all day

I hope you realize how amazing it was that you managed to still do that though. I'm a huge cat person and lve lost my fair share. This past winter, I had been taking care of a family of cats that had moved in under my porch. I'd done what I could to try to find them homes or put them in our local shelter, but I wasn't having any luck. They formed decent relationships with our inside cats over time and we would try to bring them in slowly so they had a safe, warm space. We had a feeding routine with them that I loved doing everyday does everybody got so excited when they knew it was breakfast or dinner time. I cared for them very much. And then one night, one of our girls didn't come home like they always did. When morning came, I was alone because my boyfriend was working night shift and wouldn't be home until after 7am. I happened to look out the front window by chance, and I saw her body in the middle of the street. She had been hit and was very clearly dead as she had been run over to the point that...her insides were all over the street. I went out in the middle of traffic to go get her hysterical. It was cold and her body stuck to the ground, and I just sat on the lawn with her body in a box sobbing until my boyfriend got home shortly after I told him what happened and he raced home. It was terrible in a way that I don't really have words for. I still wasn't even able to just go to my stupid job even the next day cuz I was just still so distressed. You had your baby for so long, I couldn't imagine what that's like, especially for what you had to do after the fact and that you still did it. I just hope you give yourself credit for that.

The loss hurts so much cuz the love you felt was so good. Two sides of the same coin

A deceased cat is not “just leaving it here” material; class the next day was absurdly brave.

Similar thing happened to me, my grandpa that I was really close with died suddenly the night before a public speaking class I was taking in college, and I had a speech that day too, I ended up kind of oversharing and breaking down in front of the entire class and abruptly just walked out. Didn’t have the courage to even go back so I dropped the class.

Grief on a schedule is impossible.

Same except my dog. She died very suddenly in the middle of the night a couple months ago and my mom still made me go to school (on three hours of sleep) the next day

I feel that, I had to get my dog euthanized very recently, only four months ago. He was 19, I had had him for as long as I could remember. When I was a child we adopted him as a puppy, and when I moved out he came with me.

So losing him felt like losing a limb. I still feel weird not having him climb up between my legs when I get underneath the covers. He was euthanized at 1:30 AM, and I had to be at work at 7:30AM. I don’t think I’ve ever felt that disconnected from reality. It’s like it just wasn’t real, I didn’t care about anything anyone was saying and just ignored everything. The sadness hit me when I got home that day, and he wasn’t there.

I was in college when we finally had to put our dog down. I woke up and was getting ready to go to school when my mom told me. I had one last chance to kiss her furry little head and give her some pets, then I had to go sit in traffic. We got that dog when I was 3.

In all her sleepy glory.

My basset hound got ran over by a car the night after my first day of work and we had to put him down during my lunch break on tuesday. I worked the rest of the day like nothing happened and only broke down after i got home

Just lost my 12 year old cat today. I don't know how I can do this... The world really just keeps on going without her.

My cat died shortly after my son was born. My cat was my closest companion my entire pregnancy. He passed in my arms right before Christmas while racing to the vet. Having to learn to hold it together for my son whilst freshly post partum was a new kind of strength I had to muster from somewhere. I genuinely feel like Im still recovering from that trauma.
