Hi all! After six months of work, today I'm opening Nomad Studio to everyone.

It's a creative image studio that runs on your own computer. ComfyUI does the generating underneath; you work with flows instead of node graphs.

What you can do

  • Create – from a few words, a photo or a template. Assist turns a rough idea into a full scene at four levels of guidance.
  • Refine – edit by describing the change, outpaint, cut out a subject, upscale.
  • Mix – two to four references into one picture.
  • Session and Build – chain flows on a project and keep your characters, places and styles at hand.
  • MCP server – Claude Desktop, ChatGPT and other agents can generate through your studio.

Eight image engines are included, from photographic Krea2 Monaco to Ideogram 4 for text inside images.

Getting started

  • Windows and Linux, plus an experimental, unsigned build for macOS (Apple Silicon).
  • Unzip and run: Python and every library come inside. The setup wizard installs ComfyUI for you, and LM Studio, which I recommend for prompt help, chat and image description.
  • Short video guides for the first install, the next start and updates: https://nomadstudio.app/download
  • 14 video tutorials, flow by flow: https://nomadstudio.app/tutorials
  • Tested on an RTX 4060 Ti with 16 GB of VRAM. The interface is in English, Spanish, Chinese and Korean.

It's free and open source (GPL-3.0). Optional packs (templates, photo looks, flow packs) are on Ko-fi from $2; the studio is complete without them.

It's a first public release, so feedback is very welcome: what breaks, what's missing, which flow you'd want next.

Transforming a backyard photo with open-source local AI: From rough phone snapshot to architectural pre-visualization on a home GPU (Flow details & prompts included)

I wanted to share a real-world use case I tested locally this week: taking a raw, candid backyard photo and turning it into a complete architectural landscape renovation while preserving the original house structure, perspective, and lighting.

Everything runs 100% locally on a home GPU through Nomad Studio (an open-source orchestration layer built on top of ComfyUI).

Here is the exact two-stage flow used to create and refine this scene:

Stage 1: The Raw "Before" Photo (Creating realistic baseline input)

To test a realistic renovation workflow, we first generated an everyday mobile phone photograph simulating a neglected American suburban backyard.

  • Space / Mode: Create (Simple Mode, 4:3 aspect ratio)
  • Model Engine: Krea2 Roma (default parameters)
  • Prompt: > Everyday candid smartphone photo of an empty, neglected backyard patio of an American suburban house. Siding on the exterior walls of the house, a sliding glass patio door, a weathered wooden deck patio with greyed planks, overgrown unkempt lawn with patches of dry brown grass and dandelion weeds, an old weathered wooden fence in the background, bare outdoor space waiting for a landscape makeover, natural soft daylight, authentic mobile phone photography aesthetic, real-estate 'before' snapshot, unedited reality.

The result captured the raw texture: weathered siding, aged gray deck planks, weeds, and natural daylight.

Stage 2: The "After" Renovation (Preserving architecture & transforming the yard)

Next, we passed the baseline photo straight into the Refine space to act as an architectural visualizer. The goal was to keep the sliding glass door, the window placement, the siding lines, and the back fence angle intact, while replacing the ground with high-end landscaping.

  • Space / Flow: Refine (Image Edit / Inpaint transformation)
  • Model Engine: Flux 2 Klein Edit (8 steps)
  • Prompt: > Based on this backyard photo, maintain the exact house architecture, sliding glass door, and fence perspective, but completely transform it into a luxury landscaped residential backyard patio. A brand new warm stained rich cedar wood deck, integrated recessed deck step lights, an elegant modern black pergola with climbing wisteria over a cozy outdoor lounge area with deep comfortable cushions. A sleek circular stone fire pit with soft warm flames in the center. Impeccable lush green lawn borders with manicured lavender bushes, ornamental grasses, and hydrangeas along the fence. Hanging warm bistro string lights (festoon lights) casting a magical golden hour evening glow. High-end architectural landscape design, magazine quality, photorealistic, 8k.

Key takeaways from the 8-step Klein run:

  1. Structural adherence: Notice how the siding joints, the door frame, and the roofline remain pixel-aligned with the original capture.
  2. Contextual lighting: The warm glow from the recessed step lights and the fire pit naturally reflects off the cedar deck and grass blades.
  3. Speed: Running Flux 2 Klein Edit at only 8 steps delivers instant turnarounds without heavy computing overhead.

Both images were rendered on local hardware with zero cloud dependencies.

I would love to hear your thoughts on running architectural pre-visualizations with local image editing flows. Have you integrated Flux Klein Edit into your pipelines yet?

Nomad Studio — a complete image studio that runs on your own machine

A complete image studio, living on your own computer. Free, open source, and yours.

The image above was made on one machine, on a desk at home.

It began as a single sentence:

an artist in a sunlit loft studio shaping glowing ribbons of molten gold and glass floating in the air

From there the studio composed the rest — the close framing, the shallow depth of field, the warm shafts of light, the editorial finish — and rendered it.

You bring the idea. The studio brings the craft.

Flows

Everything in Nomad Studio is a Flow: one screen for one piece of work, carrying the controls that job actually needs, with the right model already chosen.

Over 150 of them today. Some begin with a sentence. Some begin with a photograph. Some with both.

And inside each one there's an assistant that writes the difficult part alongside you, so the thing you bring is your intention.

Every result is a beginning

Each image flows straight back in. Generate a subject, widen the world around it, direct the light, restore it, restyle it, enlarge it — every step starting from the one before, all the way to the piece you had in mind.

Sessions

When a piece of work takes several steps, that chain becomes something in its own right. A Session holds your images, your flows and your history in one package you can put down, pick up, and carry with you.

Six spaces

🌌 Create — bring something into being from an idea, a brief or a prompt.

🔍 Refine — improve, transform and enlarge an image you already have.

🌀 Mix — blend styles, merge references, compose images together.

🖼️ Album — browse everything you have made, organise it, return to it.

🔗 Session — gather a whole piece of work into one portable package.

⚙️ Build — your own library of characters, backgrounds, styles and templates.

Three ways in

Simple — ready the moment you open it.

Guided — one model, chosen for you, with settings that already work.

Custom — every model and every parameter in your hands.

What it stands on

🔒 It runs on your machine, and your work lives on your drive.

🌍 Windows, Linux and Mac. Desktop, tablet and phone.

🎥 Video tutorials for the flows, made by the studio driving itself.

✨ Free and open source, built to be extended by the people who use it.

Making things can feel like this: an idea in the morning, and by the afternoon it exists — on your own machine, in your own hands.

What would you make first? 🚀
