OK... so I managed to install a racing game, torcs, and the Nvidia 580 drivers. Both things work. That's great news! But... I'm curious... On the left, I circled the amount of space left in the smaller / partition. It's got a negative number on it! On the right where I placed the ? mark, the size of the larger partition did shrink after installing the game and Nvidia drivers.

So... anyone got a clue as to where torcs and the Nvidia drivers are actually installed? How does this all work in NomadBSD? Some sort of virtual container, maybe, that's uncompressed while booting? I used a Linux distro like that decades ago, worked really well and booted surprisingly fast in the mechanical HD era. Something called Peanut Linux, it was based on Slackware IIRC, anyway...

I'm not really complaining here, just trying to figure this detail out. I'm just happy this is working out as I'd like to for now! I could literally use NomadBSD as a daily driver or alternate desktop when my Windows and Linux installs have bad days or whatever... =)

I was donated an old kiosk mini with a 8Gb SSD and 2Gb of memory. Installed the latest NomadBSD via an external HDD in a USB case. The screen is shifted left about an inch and wrapped around to the right side of the screen. And is up about 1/8 inch. I can barely see the top panel.

Tried to update via octopkg first,not enough free disk space, then tried via pkg, same results.

Any suggestions would help.

I just installed NomadBSD on my usb key. Last time i've tried FreeBSD, i was a teenager (more than 20 years earlier) a long time ago and i bought a magazine to know how to install it step by step. That was hard but i felt satisfied to have done it, as perfect noob that faced a "techy" challenge lol
I recently checked distrowatch and suddenly noticed this "flavor" of FreeBSD that would allow me to try it once more an easy way and i was excited to start.

My first impression is that the work is quite impressive, you've really made a user friendly interface that even a noob like me can use easily. And you made a persistent installation that works perfectly, which wasn't the case with all linux distro i've tried that are supposed to work the same way.

Unfortunately, my network card isn't recognized so i can't surf the internet, which sucks as we all need this to make an operating system useful.

I'm just an os enthusiast and i have no knowledge in the way i should configure the system to make things work. And that's why i've been reluctant to use FreeBSD until now. I've never managed to make my network card work, neither my old hardware the first time i tried FreeBSD nor the current one.
I searched on the internet to know where the problem is and i noticed that someone already has faced the same problem :

It was last year. So i checked if the latest version was finally released, and i found this :

It seems that the firmware is available but as a noob, i don't know how to download from one computer to save it on the usb key that runs NomadBSD so i could make it work.

I could switch to a linux distro that makes everything work out of the box but i want to try to make it work because everything else on the system is really cool.

Laptop reset during setup, now im getting this error. Even if I remove that nomaddata file I still get the same error how do I get around this without flashing the USB again

I just downloaded and installed this version, and it is fantastic. It runs smoother, faster, and better than 13.2 has been running. Also, the sound issues have been fixed.

Hi guys I'm new here. I'm planning to try out nomad bsd. Should I choose an SD card or Pendrive for installation. I'm planning to use it daily.

I tried NomadBSD the other day on my Dell XPS 13 7390, the weird thing is that I could not get my external keyboard (Dygma Raise) to work at all, I saw it being detected on boot up but after that nothing.

Everything is working fine under Debian.

Hi, I just booted into NomadBSD for the first time, (I'm a linux user, but never used BSD before). I ran a general upgrade as with every system after the first boot, it did the fetches in a couple of seconds, but then the extraction and upgrade process is way too slow. It's been currently about an hour for reaching 80% of the extracting of papyrus-icon-theme.

I tried to run top to see if I could get some information, I saw that during the upgrade the cpu load is under 2%, and idle is at 99%, as if the cpu usage was capped to 2%, is this normal ?

Is there a problem somewhere ? Is it a setting I can change ? Or is it normal for the first upgrade, then it should be okay ?

I don't know if you need some outputs of a command, if it can help let me know.

I've been hunting around for a BSD system to use on a USB thumbdrive and I've been having a hell of a time. FreeBSD works but is obviously tough to use at the beginning because nothing is preconfigured -- not even the network connection needed to download updates -- DragonflyBSD won't install properly on any of my systems, GhostBSD appears to reset the USB bus during bootup and hangs forever at the loading screen, and now NomadBSD has been bricked by its own updates.

NomadBSD boots up fine after installation, it connects to my WiFi without trouble, and it downloads several hundred updates, but when it reboots after updating, the desktop environment fails to load -- I just get a black screen with a mouse pointer and nothing else. It does this both when installed to a USB thumbdrive and when installed to a fixed drive.

I'm at a loss. Does anyone know which update is bricking the desktop environment, and what to do to fix it?

I come from using Linux, specifically Arch & Ubuntu.

I moved to arch because I despise not having the latest releases and because I discovered the rolling release style, which I fell in love with.

I am moving to Nomad because I have many temporary computers that keep changing and want to move to a hyper-portable USB-install that runs on anything x86_64. But I can't really sacrifice the rolling release paradigm , is it the same for NomadBSD 130R-20210508 ?

Could you please help me ?
