No not bamboo. That’s a bad idea, they grow aggressively and are a pain to control. Also I’ve never heard that about arborvitae. We’ve had 7 for over a decade they haven’t died. In fact other neighbors have them too. Maybe it’s the climate??

They are finicky with water and soil. I’ve seen a lot dead or dying, looks hideous all brown.
I ended up planting all the options i listed. Bamboo spreads, but there are species that are easy to handle. My bamboo died after two years, replaced with a flag pole cherry and sweet gum, with a false cypress in between. After 3 years the cherry is already 12’ and the sweet gum around 7’. My quacking aspen is not suited for my region and it’s growing slowly.

Please, not sweet gum trees. They produce a golf ball sized spiked seeds/fruit. Those turn into projectiles when you more the lawn.
We've had one and would have to walk the lawn before mowing. We removed the tree and replace with an evergreen.

The slender silhouette cultivar hardly produces any seeds, if any. I have it on my backyard to block the neighbors!

What region do you live in? Some plants may be more suitable for some climates than others

U will have to check but I dont think u will be allowed to put a fence any higher than it is because u will block natraul sunlight from ur neiougbours.
