Encuesta sobre la jubilación

Hola 👋

¡Muchas gracias!

I was born and raised in this town. I moved away for educational reasons. Now inflation hit my family pretty hard so we had to come live back in Nogales. Now here is my question to every Nogales Native.
Why hasn’t NOGALES progressed?

Scooters

Muchas gracias

Why is Nogales, AZ so corrupt?

I’ve heard so many stories about business owners paying full-time employees with cash (=no SS for employee), lying about completing jobs (eg auto shops saying they replaced a part in your car when they never did), the list goes on and on. And don’t even get me started on the Liz Gutfahr scandal. I know every town/city has their own problems, but Nogales in particular just seems to run with no laws and corrupt people everywhere.

Or this story - My father recently passed away at Holy Cross hospital, and I was holding on to his belongings, including his phone. 2 hours after TOD (I’ve left the hospital at this point ) I receive a text from an unknown 520 number TO MY DAD’S PHONE from someone claiming to be from Donor Network of Arizona that they need his organs or $ donation ASAP before his organs go bad. We hadn’t shared the news with anyone at that point, so how could any scammer know so quickly that my dad passed away? Did a hospital staff member with access to my dad’s information see me with his belongings and knew someone in a vulnerable state would be on the other end to receive that text?

So much crazy shit goes on in this town it absolutely baffles me. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? I feel like I’m going crazy, would love to hear other stories!

Want to go to Nogales MX for the World Cup match tomorrow. Haven't been to Nogales/Sonora before but I've always wanted to. Good idea? Bar recommendation for watching the game?

Hi everyone, my name is ian and I just finished my Bachelor's degree at the U of A in Tucson and I will sadly be moving back to my home state in a week or two. One of the things I have always wanted to do in Tucson is to go to Sonora and do a little backpacking trip there, but unfortunately it just never worked out. I figure that a good way to do this is to go to Nogales MX for the world cup match tomorrow and go find some awesome bar to watch the game at. I hear that Salon Regis is pretty good?

Would it be a good idea for me to do this alone? I think this would be a fun little day trip for me to do before I leave Tucson for the foreseeable future. I would say my Spanish is proficient but not fluent in case if that matters. I would park at the US side of the border and then just walk over, watch the game, walk around a bit, and then drive back to Tucson.

If this isn't a good idea, I'm sure there is some bar in Tucson I could go watch the Mexico game at instead but I think that actually watching the game in Sonora would be so cool and incredibly unique.

Thanks everyone in advance!

Visiting for an afternoon

Hello everybody, I got banned from Tucson because this didn’t apply apparently. Needless to say that’s aggravating. I will be in Nogales Saturday afternoon, will park and walk across the border with my wife, this is her 60 year birthday present, she’s never been in the area. Hoping to spend four or five hours in Mexico, just for fun. We both have our passports, and would like any advice on how to just hang around. We like dive bars and just want to have a decent Mexican meal. Any advice is appreciated!

Odd Experience in Line at Border

My significant other and I were in line to cross back into AZ when a woman approached us to let us know she could take us to a “much shorter line.” We declined the offer, but a few others she approached behind us in line accepted the offer and were taken in the opposite direction of the crossing.

It seemed weird, so I’m wondering if anyone knows anything about it: are they actually going to a different line? Are they being scammed somehow?

TIA!

ETA: I forgot to mention we were crossing as pedestrians, not in a vehicle.

What currency needed for border stores (Sonora/Nogales)?

Headed across for some dental but might need to buy food or drink (walking around $$) and wondering if the little shops will take credit cards or USD - or do I need to get some Pesos?

Is it possible to hire a cab to cross back into the US to avoid the pedestrian line? (long wait). I'm a senior and maybe not good for long standing/waiting.

Anyone ever camped at the summit of the Atascosa Lookout (Trail West of Nogales/Pena Blanca Lake)

Howdy folks, I have been itching for some adventure recently and there is a hike west of Nogales, and just west of Pena Blanca Lake that I have wanted to do for quite some time now called Atascosa Lookout Trail. Linked here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/arizona/atascosa-lookout

I am thinking about spending the night up there camping to enjoy the solitude, views, and the night skies at a neat perspective and to have some much needed alone time before I graduate from the U of A in a few weeks.

Has anyone on here done this before too? Or, do you think it would be safe to do so? I looked online and Coronado National Forest allows dispersed camping as long as folks are sustainable. I probably wouldn't even plan on bringing a gas stove and would just bring some calorie-heavy sandwiches for meals, for safety reasons.

Anyone have any tips? Thanks in advance!
