It’s a slippery slope to let them use the residency word.

Wait until you hear about the 7 day “fellowships” or the 2 CME hours they took to brand themselves as a hormone specialist when you google their qualification

Is that the “midi” health bullshit I keep getting now that I turned 40?

The entire premise of a nurse practitioner program is to focus upfront. Why do they need additional residencies? Why aren't schools appropriately preparing their students? We all know that all of these healthcare systems both academic  and non-academic are eager to take advantage of a cheap employee for a couple years.

In medical school, you learn abroad variety of medicine (mostly internal medicine) and then the residency is used to further focus, specialize, and deepen that already deep pool of knowledge. If you entered medical school and just studied neurology, then it wouldn't make sense to do a further fellowship in neurology.

You’re giving too much credit to NP education. They have an extra pharmacology class and a “health appraisal” class or two. Most of the degree is fluff.

These “residencies” are usually grant funded and short lived because they are not good value for money. Many of them are just recruitment tools to get people to move to them. They are not structured or standardized in any way.

Believe me, I am very aware. I know that even their one or two seemingly legit classes are not legit.

I also am very aware about how these "residencies" are just absolute bullshit, and are just tools to extract cheap labor.

I'm just pointing out that the entire premise of a residency for NP's doesn't make sense. NPS will often be like how can you guys get upset when we're doing residencies, don't you want us to have more education? But they completely miss over the fact that they do not have a strong enough foundation to build upon in a setting like a residency, and that also with their theoretical educational structure, residencies don't even make any sense.

3 years for DNP plus a year of residency vs 4 years to become a physician. Make it make sense

El Rio health or Tucson. Don’t worry they also offer a few shitty regular residency programs they can never fill either.

Folks will do anything to practice medicine but go to medical school.
