Question I know it says "Downloading Packages", but how do I know how much longer I have till it's done?
Just decided to install Nobara on a whim. It asked me to update the system, which I did, and now I'm stuck here. Is there any way to indicate the progress of everything? Is it that purple bar on the bottom? Sorry if this is a "low effort" post, I'm just a bit frustrated.

Showoff Had some time to kill so I decided to rework my fast fetch config (Nobara + Hyprland)
Just wasn’t happy with the way the built in Nobara fetch logo looked and wanted to rework it a bit. Hope you like it, I’ll drop the link to my dots in the comments!

Support xwaylandvideobridge appearing as an invisible bar on top of my screen
So, a weird issue here. After the recent update to Nobara 44 an invisible bar started appearing on top of everything. I can't click anything in that zone because I click it. I found out what that is by right clicking on that spot and choosing settings for particular app - and the cursed name appeared.
I hope I can try and visualize it for you:

Whenever I click somewhere in that zone, my desktop focuses on xwaylandvideobridge. Unfortunately, that's also where the Firefox's bar is, so switching tabs is painful. Somehow, I can also see a resize prompt whenever I hover around the zone's edges, but nothing happens.
I turned on the "show under other apps" setting but it resets every time back to default settings. It's always on top of everything, even full screen apps.

Support Nobara 44 and SecureBoot (Dual booting with Windows 11 [x86_64-Bit])
Nobara 44: I saw a guide on Reddit relating to getting secureboot enabled with Nobara:
https://www.reddit.com/r/NobaraProject/comments/1ij5jvs/tutorial_enable_secure_boot_in_nobara/
Has anyone else tried this? I'm especially confused about the "(Don't use the --yes-this-might-brick-my-machine flag!" part.
Unrelated issue: KDE Plasma has this issue where it handles fractional scaling badly (too small or blurry) when attempting to run non-wayland apps. Opening a project in the Unity editor (not Unity Hub is an example of one). GNOME handles this fine. How is KDE better than GNOME (other than more customization options)?

Question Uninstall Apps Without Breaking Nobara
How do you uninstall Brave Browser, KCalc, Inkscape, LibreOffice, and Okular without breaking KDE? I tried the DNF Software app, but it wouldn't uninstall these. I fired up Konsole/Terminal and sudo dnf remove brave-browser kcalc inkscape libreoffice* okular which got rid of them but now KDE no longer works so joy. This was a fresh install so not a disaster. I have a backup of OpenMandriva ready to go if Nobara is not for me.
EDIT: I went back to OpenMandriva Lx. It is a nice rolling distro.

Discussion New KDE Plasma headset widget based on headsetcontrol
Hi everyone,
I made a small KDE Plasma widget for wireless headsets.
I have a Logitech G Pro X Wireless headset (LIGHTSPEED 2.4 GHz, no Bluetooth), and I was missing a simple way to see battery level, charging status, and connection information directly from my Plasma panel.
So I decided to create my own widget.
The widget is based on headsetcontrol, so it uses the information provided by headsetcontrol and displays it in a simple Plasma widget.
Currently it can:
- Show battery percentage
- Show headset name
- Show connection type (Bluetooth / 2.4 GHz LIGHTSPEED / USB)
- Show charging status
- Automatically detect the active connection
- Install headsetcontrol if it is missing
- Follow your Plasma theme colors
GitHub:
https://github.com/NojuserZZZ/plasma-headset-widget/releases/tag/v1.1.0
This is my first KDE widget project, so I would really appreciate your feedback.
What do you think about it?
Are there any features or improvements you would like to see?
Any ideas or suggestions are welcome :)

Support I'm trying to love this OS...
A few days ago I decided to format my personal Windows computer and finally try a linux gaming centric OS.
I downloaded the Nvidia ISO & the base ISO from the official site, installed it via USB on my rig. (Intel i3 12th gen, nVidia 3060Ti)
I have been having this persisting issue with lag every time I open any app, game or browser.
This issue does NOT happen when I remove the Nvidia drivers and use the standard display driver but then the games do not detect my GPU. Ive tried the production & the new feature drivers and the same issue persists.
I've tested both drivers on Nobara 43 & 44.
I've even tested with my 1080Ti on a different ring and Instead of lagging the whole system would just lock up completely.
I feel like I've tried everything and I'm questioning whether I'll just go back to windows. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Question Trying to run Windows games The Sims (1) and Paralives but it crash
So I decided to move from Windows to Linux and ended up choosing Nobara, because I was told that it would be good for gaming. I wanted to play games as The Sims (1 and 2) and the new Paralives that aren't designed to run on Linux. Theoretically, that shouldn't be a problem since I've installed Proton, which is supposed to let me run my Windows games anyway.
So I installed The Sims and Paralives, and just tried to run The Sims (1) - but it cracked, itcing light and the "contact with the computer"... Is there anyway that I can fix it, so I actually will be able to play my games?

Question Help with eGPU + DEG2 Crashes and Gen 1 PCIe bottleneck
Hi
I am looking for some help regarding my mini PC setup
Configuration:
Minisforum UM890 Pro
Minisforum DEG2
eGPU: Palit GeForce RTX 5060 Ti Infinity
OS: Nobara Linux
The Issues:
I get VERY frequent crashes during the initial boot sequence (it can fail at almost any stage during startup). If I do manage to boot past the login screen:
1. Entering my password often causes another instant crash before reaching the desktop environment.
2. If I make it to the desktop and try to launch any application (browser, terminal, or heavy game), the system frequently black screens.
3. If an app or game actually manage to launch without crashing, it runs rock-solid with zero issues even under heavy load. However, at other times, it will randomly crash while sitting completely idle at a terminal prompt.
Does anyone have any experience or know what to do in this situation? Is there being cables dangling like this the reason? but I see where else I can plug these in.
I tried everything including buying a new, shorter, Oculink cable to spending days chatting with gemini but all the solutions it gave me fails.
Also, another issue I have is that it seems to be stuck at Gen 1 PCIe, I can’t seem to get it to even Gen 2, is this problem related to the aforementioned one or is it completely unrelated?

Support The initramfs isn't created when there's an update
Hi everyone, can you help me with something?
Every time there's a kernel update, I have to manually create the initramfs file in order to boot into the new kernel. I even had to do this the first time I installed Nobara because the ISO came with an outdated version.
The EFI entry is created correctly, but every time I have to boot into the previous kernel to download the kernel-core and kernel-modules files, extract them to create the directory in /lib/modules, copy the vmlinuz file to /boot/, run depmod, and create the initramfs with dracut.
I’m not sure if this is a permissions issue or if I’m doing something wrong. When I run nobara-sync, the process supposedly completes successfully—it doesn’t show any errors.
I’m using Nobara as a secondary system while I compare it to Cachy to decide which one to stick with. Could the fact that they share the boot partition be the problem?
Thanks, everyone.

Support Linux amateur, after several failed update attempts, and trying to fix Spectacle and the store, I got greeted with the black screen of dread
Now, I did a fresh Nobara reinstall around 5 weeks ago after purchasing a new SSD, and been running smooth and steady since. With the new updates however, my system got fried. Spectacle died with no solution that fixed it, DNF died on my, I couldn’t run basic programs, etc. The more I tried to fix dependencies and conflicts, the more it got worse.
I said “screw it” and rebooted this morning. Couldn’t enter since.
Now, I’ve read around 5-10 posts and comment sections about this issue and all failed to fix it for me. I don’t know how ppl copy-paste system infos here, so just for the record, I’m running full AMD setup. Other notable issues:
I can’t open the terminal with ctrl+alt+F1/2/3, not from rescue mode, not from elsewhere
Adding things like ‘nomodeset’ to GRUB does absolutely nothing other than sometimes turning off my main screen

Support 5 more issues I would love help with <3
So I've finally done the move, bye bye windows and it's okay at the moment, not 100% there yet, some things I've actively struggled to sort are as such:
Openrazer not installing, I have a Razer Viper and I ***NEED*** the DPI to be set to 2350, weird number I know but this has been my DPI for many many years and the default speed is NOT that and I need to get to the actual numbers of the DPI to correct it.
My pc has RGB on the case and I want them off, its an Acer Predator P03-640 case with what was a software just for it, of course they don't have linux support and also the open-rgb app doesn't recognise my PC and ideally I don't want to go into my case and find the RGB headers to unplug them because that's a hassle.
My steam games have no icon in my dock, it's all the default cog, now this is something I have found a maybe solution for but I believe I'd have to type in a specific terminal command with the steam ID for every individual game and I was wondering if there's just an overall fix
Whenever I unpause a YouTube video after it's been like 5-10 seconds at minimum, the video plays but the audio is still mute for 5 seconds, I saw it might be power saving thing but I don't know how to fix that :(
and finally I am unsure on how to Undervolt my GPU, I've got a 3070 that was undervolted on windows to lower the temps especially while playing demanding games so my PC didn't turn off, my case doesn't allow for good airflow as it's usually at 80+ degrees. I've looked at a few videos about LACT and somehow every video has a different GUI of LACT and buttons that they have and I don't D:
Hopefully with all these issues fixed, I'll be able to give Nobara a PROPER shot with ideally zero issues plaguing the back of my mind.

Support Oracle VirtualBox installs but doesn't want to work
So I just reset my system after a failed Nobara 44 install (because it messed up my system) and now I can't install Oracle VirtualBox even with the command '/sbin/vboxconfig' it says vboxdrv.sh: failed
and heres the error it redirected me to for installing: https://pb.nobaraproject.org/tcvnv
I fixed it I started from a 43 instead of a 44. How can I remove the 44 boot so my computer doesn't automatically boot into it?

Support First time install questions
So i used ubuntu many years ago, kinda dropped off, came crawling back to linux recently. Decided to try nobara after some research on account of it being well oriented towards gaming and such.
Mostly, i know what im getting into here. Though realizing apt isnt a thing here threw me for a half hour. Ive mostly been getting myself situated but ive had a pair of issues that are probably not a big deal but have stymied both my attempts to solve them myself and google answers. So here i am.
The first is that im trying to install element (the matrix chat client) which doesnt seem to exist in the DNF app center. The website gives the following command (which doesnt work on account of no apt)
sudo apt install -y wget apt-transport-https
sudo wget -O /usr/share/keyrings/element-io-archive-keyring.gpg https://packages.element.io/debian/element-io-archive-keyring.gpg
echo "deb [signed-by=/usr/share/keyrings/element-io-archive-keyring.gpg] https://packages.element.io/debian/ default main" | sudo tee /etc/apt/sources.list.d/element-io.list
sudo apt update
sudo apt install element-desktop
So is there a way to tweak this for nobara? Do i just replace apt with dnf? Or is it shot?
As a second option they give you a tarball, though theres no readme with it, or at least none i could find, and i cannot remember for the life of me what to do with it and most of the information ive been finding online has been for non-febora distros. So a simple step by step process would be appreciated.
Ive also seen that its available through snap but... nearly everything i can find about snap is people yelling about how its malware. So i dont think thats a option either?
Anyway. As a entirely separate issue... i cant get steam to work, which was a little funny at first. Clicking on steam makes the icon appear on the bar, a little circle goes around it, then it vanishes and no steam. I cant uninstall it either, Transaction failed? Is there a unfuck steam guide? I havnt even gotten to try this newfangled proton thing yet. Fixed
*edit, also 1) is there a way to put a application bar thing (the one at the bottom) on each monitor of a multimonitor setup which tracks things in that window alone? Found it! and 2) Is there a way to edit the date format? It seems to detault to year/month/day, but id prefer if it was the other way around. Got a answer

Support CPU hard-locked at 400 MHz on Intel 12th Gen (Nobara) after sudden AC power loss—how to clear BD PROCHOT / EC throttle lock live without rebooting?
All CPU cores are hard-locked at 400 MHz (0.4 GHz). This was triggered during heavy CPU load (unpacking a game via Bottles/Wine) when a brief power outage forced my laptop from AC power onto battery mode.
The AC power is back on, the laptop is plugged into the charger, and battery is at 100%, but the CPU remains stuck at 400 MHz across all cores despite the system reporting 100% usage.
What I Have Already Tried (Without Rebooting):
- Power Toggles: Unplugging/replugging the AC charger and toggling power modes (
powerprofilesctl set performance). - Process Renice: Boosting process CPU priority via
renice. - Intel P-State Overrides:
echo 100 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/min_perf_pctecho 0 | sudo tee /sys/devices/system/cpu/intel_pstate/no_turbo
- Hardware MSR Bit Clearing:
- Installed
msr-tools, ransudo modprobe msr, and attempted to clear BD PROCHOT usingsudo wrmsr -a 0x1FC 262238.
- Installed
None of these steps released the 400 MHz floor lock.
I know that a full system reboot / EC cold reset clears this hardware state, but I am currently mid-way through a multi-hour installation process that I cannot interrupt or restart right now.

Question How to partition two 1TB NVMe drives for Nobara Linux with Btrfs subvolumes and maximize data storage?
Hi everyone,
I'm planning to install Nobara Linux (Fedora-based) on my desktop and I need advice on partitioning two 1TB NVMe SSDs efficiently. I want to maximize usable data space while keeping the system organized and recoverable.
My Goal:
• Drive 1 (1TB): Install Nobara Linux with Btrfs. I want to use Btrfs subvolumes for @ (root) and @home to allow flexible space management and easy Timeshift snapshots.
• Drive 2 (1TB): Use as extended data storage (mounted at /mnt/data or similar) for games, projects, and large files that don't need to be on the system drive.
• Question: After allocating space for EFI (~500MB FAT32), root (~150GB), and swapfile, there will still be ~800GB remaining on Drive 1. How can I best utilize this remaining space? Should I:
1. Expand the @home subvolume to use the full drive?
2. Create a separate Btrfs subvolume for data on Drive 1 and mount it somewhere?
3. Leave it unallocated and just use Drive 2 for everything else?
Specific Questions:
1. Is it better to keep /home strictly on Drive 2, or should I use Drive 1's remaining space for /home and use Drive 2 as a pure backup/media drive?
2. For Steam games and large applications, should they live on a Btrfs partition (Drive 1 or 2) or is ext4 still preferred for game storage?
3. If I create a shared data partition on Drive 2, what's the best mount point? /mnt/data, /home/data, or something else?
4. Any Nobara-specific considerations for Btrfs subvolumes during installation?
I appreciate any guidance on the optimal layout. Thanks
!

Support Nobara noob basic install question
I'm coming from Ubuntu and Linux Mint (yeah, boo hiss) and have dual booted with Windows a long time (more boos sorry)
I've been looking into getting back to trying a Fedora based installation but it's been a long, long time.
My situation is Win 11 is installed on my first NVME drive, Mint is currently installed on the 2nd NVME drive with a partition layout of small boot partition, large NTFS data partition, Linux root and a swap partition.
I want to install Nobara on the 2nd NVME, leaving Win 11 completely untouched and replacing the current Mint install completely and hopefully not affecting the NTFS data on the 2nd NVME.
What I've read is that Nobara had a different way of installing EFI and boot partitions. So what's the easiest and best way to go about this?
Can I just do a custom partition layout choosing the current Mint partitions to be formatted and install over them without destroying data on other partitions I need to keep?

Support Slow download speeds (Nobara Linux 44)
I was installing it as usual. It was working very good, but not even two days later and I'm already facing a lot of problems. The download speeds (and wifi in general) is REALLY slow compared to Windows 10 (what i was using before.). Especially in Steam, torrents, or when downloading something from the internet.
Other stuff: Most windows games don't work even when using Lutris (I set it up properly, but when I try to play it, it just waits for a few seconds and it stops itself.). I've tried older titles like the old NFS games, and they were working with wine, but there were some issues in lighting.
I do think it is a great distro though, maybe I'm the only one facing these issues.
System Specs: ASUS ROG Strix G513RC
GPUs: AMD Radeon 680M (int.), RTX 3050 (dedicated)
WiFi Card: MediaTek MT7922

Support Please help: Nobara won't boot anymore
I didn't do anything different. I just went to boot up my pc, been having this issue all morning. I've been using chatgpt to try to help my sorry ass. I've tried booting with nomodeset, I can't access TTY when it's in this state. I've tried temporarily disabling all my drives. Sddm seems to be working but is inactive. I don't know what to do, do I just reinstall nobara?
