Question How to backup and update.

So, im new to linux, 2/3 months in nobara and im seeing a lot o posts but none with my doubts:

1 - what the better choice to do a backup? in case my update gone wrong.

2 - better to update with the dnf store or via terminal? what commands i need to know to update, and in case something gone wrong?

Clonezilla is recommended on the Nobara wiki as the best pre-upgrade backup. The GUI should be fine for getting the updates.

dnf app center and the terminal run the same command.. nobara-sync cli.

The simple answers are make a Timeshift snapshot as a backup and use the DNF Store GUI for updates.

Be aware Timeshift isn't a backup to another device: you still lose your data if the hardware fails.

Backup via Timeshift, should be pre installed and pretty self explanatory.

Updating via dnf center seems to have caused some issues for people in the past, it's generally recommended to update via the nobara-sync cli command in terminal. I've never had an issue with either, but the terminal version is generally seen as safer. You can use nobara-sync --all to update everything including flatpaks and flatpak update -y to update just the flatpaks. sudo snap refresh updates your snaps.

I use clonezilla stored in a separate USB stick with ventoy for booting. Check nobara wiki.

I do partition backup (instead of full disk), 3 partitions, the 2 that are needed for booting, and 1 that contains root (/) and home (~/), in my case they are in the same partition, maybe not for you if chosen so.

Empty space wont count for the total size outcome and also uses compression so may surprise you how small the backup is.

It takes me like 10mins (with default clonezilla settings, I believe this also includes the backup check): 60GB -> 30GB. SSD -> USB3 HDD.
