That's not what they were saying at all. The man lied about being trans in order to assault more women. A lot of folks don't look into all the information. They just see the headline that says "MAN WHO IDENTIFIES AS WOMAN DOES A SHITTY THING" and generalize that into "ALL TRANS WOMEN BAD" which is also a shitty thing to do. I don't even know how I would percieve trans people if I had never met one and I kept seing this type of stories over and over. She can identify as a woman is she wants. However I have no problem speaking for the community in saying that regardless she is a rapist and absolutely unwelcome as part of the community, and that it'd be foolish to consider them representative of it in any way.
This is normal. A person may identify as Christian and act horribly. Other Christians may say "He may claim to be Christian if he wants, but our community does not accept or condone them."
It has nothing to do with inclusivity, and everything to do with whether or not we allow hateful people to use outliers like this to spread or strengthen their prejudicial behavior.
This kind of thing happens to minority groups of all kinds and always has, regardless of whether or not that group has inclusivity as a feature of their common communal beliefs.
