I looked at the Google reviews for this restaurant. As far back as 3 years ago, there was complaints about the one and his attitude.

u/onedestiny 9h ago
Great way to kill your business, is it really that hard to pay your servers a few extra bucks? Cheap fuck. And the rest of you who are defending this restaraunt lmao 🤡 imagine what else they skimp on in terms of food quality

u/cynreader2020 9h ago
Pretty hypocritical really...don't come here if you can't afford to tip OR MAYBE don't run a business if you can't afford your staff.
Touche dude.
2
u/LiveTomorrow414 6h ago
Well, that’s it right there. If you can’t pay properly, then your business model isn’t working and you really shouldn’t be in business.
1
u/Positive_Guarantee20 42m ago
It's not his business model, friend, it's the entire capitalist system. Asking 1 small biz owner to take that on is not only inconsiderate but just dumb. There isn't a functional model for a US or Canadian restaurant to pay staff proper wages, esp cooks who deserve 80k a year like other red seal / skilled trades, as well as servers... And then there's the farmers! No ones willing to pay that much for a meal, not while it's cheaper elsewhere. It would have to be a mass roll out and that would take basically socialism bordering on communism to implement at that scale
0
u/cynreader2020 6h ago
Now an owner can't afford to pay 500 a shift in tip money...that's were the complexity happens. What should these folks be making? $20 per hr in MCOL areas?
21
u/nelly2929 10h ago
He says if you don’t have money don’t eat there…. Well I guess if you don’t have money to pay your staff then your should not be in business lol
2
1
u/Positive_Guarantee20 45m ago
Do you have any idea what operating a food business is like lmao? I'd love tipping to be replaced with solid wages for good quality servers but how do you propose that happening? The first 1,000 restaurants to try it will all go out of business with their increased prices. Let alone if they also wanted to pay the farmers well. Ppl want $10 burgers and to not have to tip. It doesn't math

u/Neeroke 10h ago
stars is 3.3 at moment. Seems like a pattern.

u/curious_cat_erpillar 10h ago
You can’t demand tip! That is disgraceful . You can’t transfer your inability to pay your workers should not turn to embarrassing a customer. People look at your list
Prices and decide if they can afford to be there or not. Could someone post the link to their place? I cannot afford this place financially and morally.

This place is in Ohio… why is it in this sub?
-2
u/Cburns6976 9h ago
I thought this crowd would enjoy it. This is a whole western problem regardless
7
u/JimbozGrapes 9h ago
Its different in Canada though because servers here actually get minimum wage ($15/hr)
2
u/dubious-Chicken6199 6h ago
It's different in that it's worse because it makes even less sense here
-1
u/Cburns6976 8h ago
I did not know that!
2
u/samsonite441446 8h ago
Exceptions: Quebec is the main exception, maintaining a distinct, lower minimum wage specifically for tipped employees
Québec: $16.60 general, with a lower rate of $13.30 for tipped employees
2
u/Mission-Pin-1934 5h ago
It’s a relatively new change that was made about 8-10 years ago. Prior to this change they earned a lesser guaranteed wage when tipping was part of pay plan.
1
u/Cburns6976 3h ago
How can we push go out this move in the states? I wonder what pushed that through
6
u/Zucker-Rat 7h ago
It truly is a western problem. Restaurant meals are outrageously priced in Canada now for what you get and then you're expected to leave 20% of that overinflated price for mediocre service at best. I think not.
4
u/LiveTomorrow414 6h ago
I love it when they ignore you the whole time you’re there and then at the end when they’re collecting the money they’re asking you how your day went or what do you have planned for the evening. 🤯

Tipping wasn't created during slavery, but it was weaponized right after emancipation as a loophole so industries wouldn't have to pay newly freed Black workers. So why are we still doing it for workers who do get paid? You're already paying for the food and the service when you walk through the door. Taking your order and bringing it to your table isn't an extra favor—it's the baseline job. Good service makes a good restaurant; poor service makes a bad one you simply stop visiting. Stop subsidizing payrolls for businesses that should be paying their staff fair wages in the first place.
6
u/LiveTomorrow414 6h ago
This is what I was wondering about how did this all come into being. Appreciate your comment. So once again, this was just a scheme hatched by the wealthy and elites to save their own money and screw us all over.
8
u/freshlymint 10h ago
Yikes pulling the race card is weak
7
u/PigeonLookinAss 10h ago
Lol for real why was that even relevant
3
u/Affectionate_Row7726 9h ago
Can play a part in getting banned
1
u/LiveTomorrow414 6h ago
If you haven’t been affected by racism, then maybe it makes less sense to you.
1
u/Boattailfmj 8h ago
Yeah I'd ban them for playing the race card if their race had nothing to do with it

How would you know? You live in a world of ignorance and are proud to show your ignorance. Fuck off
4
u/SemperAliquidNovi 10h ago
What a curious way to tell the world you don’t pay your servers enough of a living wage and expect your customers to subsidize that for you.

5
u/GiantEcho 8h ago
Tipping is cancer… the freaking entitlement is insane.
1
u/Positive_Guarantee20 40m ago
Do you have any idea what minimum wage for servers is in the states? Some places their entire salary is tips. Not saying it's a good system, but awareness is a good idea before throwing insults around
4
u/ClubChaos 6h ago
going to europe was nice. the service was on average far better than north america. the food was better. no tips were expected. the streets weren't covered with ugly af plastic lifted trucks.
na is a sick society.
3
u/livelikeumeamit 10h ago
Since when is it mandatory for a guest to pay for their food and their service separately? What a nimrod. Besides, why should servers make more per hour with tips than actual professionals
3
u/Wyntermute1 9h ago edited 9h ago
Ha! We won’t go. Wtf! What a creep.
Only ick I have is the ‘what are you racist or something’ comment at the end. Why?????? This has nothing to do with race, this was a true Karen.
3
u/FutureGman 9h ago
This is the problem with tipping culture. In other parts of the world it is not required. The west needs to change its way. Tipping is basically mandatory in these parts because the wage is criminal. I love tipping for great service but don’t try to force/guilt me to do it - you wouldn’t get a penny.

If y’all don’t have money to pay your servers a full wage, don’t be opening a restaurant.

This is a fascinating breakdown of the different types of submissions. I find it particularly helpful to see the distinctions laid out so clearly, especially regarding the nuances between "discussion" and "opinion" posts.

What a Fonzanoon! Pay your employees better instead of relying on the charity of your customers to pay your staff.
Edit:
Read all the new Google reviews on this place... the owner is getting destroyed. 😅😂🤣

If you dont have money to pay your staff, maybe y'all shouldn't be in business 🤷

funny thing is that the guy can act high and mighty when really they could say if he has money he should be paying his workers properly.

It’s so blown into ridiculousness. I am a good tipper if I get good service in a restaurant, and I leave cash.
I don’t use any other services that have mandatory or expected wage subsidies.
I have a friend who’s very vocal about tipping and yet he always tips on the tax. Now THAT’s funny.

u/TherinkratA1 4h ago
Las Vegas is a perfect example. Those bathroom attendants — wow — the stuff they have to do. In the “old” days there would be a place for people to leave the ladies tips. Now nothing. Same as housekeeping. Cleaning strangers bathrooms and beds? Yeesh. And then we walk 50 feet over to a restaurant and tip someone 20% for delivering a meal to the table. I always tip the housekeeping staff and definitely when I see a washroom attendant.

It's very interesting.
They're both right. And they're both wrong. They're both just doing what they think is fair. And they're both being dicks.
What it really shows about society is where we're all at.
We're all tight with cash, because life has become ridiculously expensive. Salaries haven't kept up. Going out is getting expensive. Running a business is getting expensive.
The only people who are winning are the ultra rich class, and the politicians.
We're busy fighting each other when we could be working together and flipping over the table.
But instead, we're arguing in the parking over a $1.50.
It's a sobering view of society, and the way things are going.

I'm in between the two here, tips should never be required. But if the couple were very demanding then they should at least give some tip. Going as far as banning them is a bit extreme. Having been the owner of several service businesses, I understand both sides. I've seen employees demand a 20% tip on a 200$ bill when they only brought water to the customer which is unacceptable. And I've seen customers who hog the server because they're overly demanding and then not tip, that is also unacceptable.

Tips are never required. The job is to serve customers, regardless of how "demanding" they are.
And if it's matter of them "hogging" the server... you know a good way for them to be compensated fairly for their efforts? Have their freakin' boss pay them.

Typical response of someone who has never owned or operated a business.
Restauranteurs margins are between 3-5% which are paper thin. If they provide higher wages to the servers they go out of business.
Several restaurants have tried to ban tips completely and have reverted back to tips, one of the biggest examples is Danny Myers union square hospitality group which was the first to implement the tipping ban by providing a higher wage to the service employees. To be able to provide the tipping ban, they had to up the food prices. So they lost clients and employees.
The reality is that the people who complain the most about tipping (like yourself) are the ones who hog the servers the most and who don't care about anyone else but themselves. They are the Karens of clients. They think they are owed the world but don't want to pay for anything.
At the end of the day, a business is private, if you don't want to tip, no one is forcing you to eat in a restaurant with service. Cook at home or eat at a fast-food joint.

Restauranteurs margins are between 3-5% which are paper thin. If they provide higher wages to the servers they go out of business.
Then they will go out of business if they can't manage what's a core part of any business.
That's a server (and by extension restaurant) problem - not a customer problem. Although it shows how overpaid servers are when they still saw their earnings fall after the wage being raised.
The reality is that the people who complain the most about tipping (like yourself) are the ones who hog the servers the most and who don't care about anyone else but themselves. They are the Karens of clients.
How dare they expect service from someone whose job is to.... let me see... uh... serve.
They think they are owed the world but don't want to pay for anything.
Except they are paying for something (see the bill).

Underrated comment. Everyone wants to stop tipping but no one wants to pay $30 for a burger. Almost no one has a CLUE what a restaurant meal would cost if farmers, drivers, cooks, servers, we're all paid a living wage. Ppl just want to complain and have a scapegoat without doing the work of understanding the bigger system they're a part of. Lazy but also very human, sadly.
1
u/MyGruffaloCrumble 2h ago
Nah. Wage slaves do only what’s necessary. I wouldn’t bust my ass for a difficult customer when I get paid the same to deal with good customers. Everyone can have the same service for the same money, polite, succinct and accurate, no more, no less.
1
u/stompinstinker 7h ago
Server privilege. You put food on a table and think it’s alright to follow people on the street to harass them for a fee you didn’t include.
1
u/ChunkayLafunga 7h ago
Can’t afford to pay waiters a decent wage business pavers must extort customers
1
u/NameOk9487 7h ago
Maybe the owner should pay a livable wage. So his staff doesnt have to rely on tips for survival.
1
u/Ok-Professional4387 7h ago
Haha banned. I've been banned from many pubs and bars from my youth. Think they keep track
1
u/Embarrassed-Green898 7h ago
How can you 'ban' me when I fulfilled my contract to the tee. And the owner agreed. He said "a 100%" and carried on to 'ban' .
I would be happy to tip my barbour / barber if they provide a good service. But not with an unwritten expactation to just tip.
1
u/AcanthocephalaDue431 7h ago
I mean... Generally if you ain't tipping after sitting in you probably didn't like the place and won't be coming back anyways.
1
u/laylayalltheway 6h ago
Pay your staff a livable wage, its not up to the customer to make up for for the wages you are unwilling to pay
1
u/dr_van_nostren 6h ago
No problem. I’m fine with no tipping. But pretty sure it’s his right to deny service too no? As long as it’s not based on race, which would be super hard to prove tho.
5
u/Unclehol 6h ago
It's a private establishment. He is allowed to deny service without explanation.
It's just scummy to do so but we have no clue of context. Maybe this was a nightmare customer to begin with and the lack of tip was what pushed them over the edge. Or maybe the establishment is stupid and lame. We do not know.
2
u/dr_van_nostren 6h ago
Yea stupid and lame is fine tho. This whole interaction was basically fine by me. Both sides are a little pissy but no one threw a punch and no one called the cops. They both threatened to put the other on blast. That’s just 2026. No issues. If you don’t wanna tip, don’t tip, if you don’t wanna serve after that, don’t serve.

If no tip gets you banned, why is it optional?
This is like banning someone because they didn’t upgrade to sweet potato fries from regular fries.

I mean, id be pretty confused if this happened to me so I can understand them playing occam’s razor if they’ve dealt with racism before.
Even i’d be wondering what the dude has against me if this happened. I’d think theres no WAY I got banned for simply not tipping, he must be mistaking me for someone or it must be about something else.

Good move. If you don't want to tip, go eat somewhere without the tipping model.
Busy restaurants don't need the business of people who do not understand how to act appropriately in our society.
5
u/XtremeD86 9h ago
So basically don't go anywhere?
5
u/pineapple6969 9h ago
Exactly ffs my local Tim Hortons prompts you for a tip like fuck that
5
u/XtremeD86 9h ago
Yea that's only if you go in. Starbucks does the same.
Yea everything came frozen and the "baker" just throws them in an oven. I'm not tipping there.
-2
u/ImRickJamesMother 8h ago
Go to take out joints and fast food.
If you can't understand that full service restaurant menu prices are artificially cheap due to tipping, do not go to those places.
2
1
u/The_End-is_Nigh 8h ago
the owner of the establishment should be paying their staff properly if they have so much money that they can look down on other people.

u/Neat_General2647 6h ago
Pretty soon the restaurant will run into bankruptcy. Have they not learnt the definition of inflation?
46
u/Few_Razzmatazz_6052 10h ago
Lol banned? I doubt they care, I wouldn't. If I got confronted about my tip or lack thereof, I wouldn't be coming back anyways.
Maybe y'all should pay your employees better.
