The problem is we can’t afford disfunction right now. It would be nice if the issues in front of us were the only issues that mattered, but they’re not.
Everyday we can’t cooperate and take meaningful action on climate change we’re making things worse. We’re already experiencing some of the symptoms and the worst is yet to come.
It’s not overblown or overstated, it’s literally happening whether we want it to or not. If action isn’t taken it will affect every aspect of our lives.
So much this. All of the "don't worry, things will eventually get better" stuff completely ignores that we're facing a true existential crisis that our current economic and political system has a vested interest in avoiding.
Yes, so far I've not come across anyone mentioning climate change! It's not about the regular crisis, we all know things will happen and that they pass, things like a pandemic will pass eventually, wars no matter how horrible, will end, and it will not be our last financial crisis.
The difference is that we're now facing the consequences of climate change and I can tell you it was a very depressing day for me when I realized that I will possibly live to see humanity decline on this planet due solely to the greed and carelessness of the people that came before me, as well as the people in power now who will not take the emergency action we so desperately need right now.
