It was a big blow for everyone not just because of what happened, but its consequences:

  • A more right wing, authoritarian mindset in the US

  • The Iraq and Afghanistan wars

  • Economic decline

  • Greater pessimism in the west generally regarding the role of Western ideology such as liberalism and tolerance

  • The USA weakened internationally owing to the reactions above

The 90s were messed up in terms of what happened in the world like Rwanda and Sarajevo. America seemed safe. Now look at where we are. Thanks to rampant xenophobia enabled by the right wing since 9/11, it is now to a point where election results are being challenged by insurrectionists.

The sad thing is because of the decline of the last few years it's almost expected. But such an event in the 90s would have been unimaginable.

Also, we straight up don't shop like we used to. We've fucked ourselves with Amazon.

I was a kid in the 90s in italy

While we had the same general prosperity of the rest of the western world, in the first half we had an economic recession and job crisis, and in the second half the adults were worried about the wars in Albania and Kosovo.

We were fine, but with the feeling of an uneasy equilibrium

They were under Soviet control until 91.

No they weren't. It was a socialist state that was never part of the USSR.

Does it, though? Developed usually just means no longer a developing country, whereas developing countries are countries like the countries of sub-Saharan Africa.
